JORDAN JENKINS - PERSONAL STATEMENT

I am applying to study creative media as I am fascinated with the whole

process of bringing films, music videos, documentaries and adverts to the
screen, this has been my passion since I was young. Although I am already
technically proficient, I am very keen to learn more and develop further
skills from people who specialise within the industry, I am aware it is very
competitive area but with my technical abilities, work ethic and drive I am
determined to be the best. From primary school onwards I produced short
films with my friends which I then edited using windows movie maker,
during early years at secondary school I made gaming videos and edited
these using Sony Vegas Pro and this is where I started to properly learn
how to edit to a higher standard.

I have always enjoyed movies with a strong story line - I loved Dark Knight
because of Heath Ledger's scarily believable performance as the Joker as
well as the production's strong visual style and darker tone. Alien and I am
Legend are favourites as both are visually strongly as well as having
unique narratives, not just stereotypical Sci-Fi stories. I enjoy Quentin
Tarantino's gritty style, his use of dark comedy and music to evoke the
viewer's emotions.

In 2017 I attended BCA in Burchetts Green where I studied Level 2 OCR in

Creative Media Production, using more advanced software like Final Cut
Pro and Premier Pro CC which I still use. I am currently at Henley College
studying Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production TV &
Film where I have obtained a Distinction for my first year. I love using
Premier Pro CC, it is very complex and has a lot of tools, there is always
something new to learn. I enjoy colour correcting using Lumetri colour work
space as it gives a film more depth and tone, the style used helps the
viewer to understand what the mood of the production is. I like colour
grading as this can often make objects within a production stand out and
make colours visually pop.

This year I made an expository documentary called "Money over Passion?"

investigating the music industry's increasing use of auto tune and talent
shows. This documentary included professional interviews with people who
have worked in the music industry including Ian Davenport who has worked
with Stereophonics, Band of Skulls and Gaz Coombes amongst others. In
2015, with some trepidation, I agreed to climb Ben Nevis with a friend I
have known since preschool, despite being terrified of heights I agreed to
take part to push myself. Throughout this challenge communication and the
ability to follow instructions were vital for the safety of the team in the
difficult weather conditions, whilst I did this primarily to support my friend I
am proud of this achievement. Working for both Call Matt and Equitrek
Windsor honed my personal skills - I have learnt to listen and carry out the
work accurately and efficiently, be mature and aware of health and safety
for myself and colleagues. I also learnt to deal with clients professionally
and with diplomacy and charm which will be invaluable when going into a
competitive industry.

I passionately believe I have a future in media, along with my creative

talent and imagination, I have the dedication to work the long hours needed
to produce work to a professional standard and meet deadlines. I hope that
being given the opportunity to further study Media will help me take a first
step in achieving success in the career I love. My plans post degree would
be to start by working within media specializing in post-production long
term once I have learnt the ropes I would like to start my own freelance
post production business this path, 3 years college, university degree and
industry experience will help me to achieve this aim.
