BRIEF HISTORY OF THE FARM
Miner’s Nature Farm is an integrated
and diversified farm as certified by the
Agricultural Training Institute as Learning
Site (LS-2018-09-116) effective September 5,
2018 up to September 5, 2023. It is also
accredited by the Department of Tourism as
Agri-Tourism site effective May 19, 2019 to
May 19, 2022. It is situated at Purok 3,
Sugbay-Uno, Dimataling , Zamboanga Del
Sur.
The name is derived from the call sign
of my husband, Haniel C. Baya who believes
that one does not have to go abroad and find
greener pasture. Just right here in our locality
there are many treasures only if you cultivate
a piece of land.
Miner’s Nature Farm has an area of
twelve (12) hectares; six (6) hectares of which
is utilized to large cattle pasture and the other
six hectares is utilized for organic farming.
Motivated by the desire to go organic when
people in the locality do not embrace the
concept despite many trainings being
conducted, this farm area has been set for
experimentation of organic rice duck farming.
This farm started its operation in 2013
when I started as WEMRIC (Women
Empowerment Movement Rural Improvement
Club) President of our 2,500 rural women. Up
to 2016, it has been used as demonstration
farm for organic rice production, organic
poultry raising, tilapia fish culture, duck
raising, vegetables production, vermin culture
and biodegradable composting.
The farming practices were patterned
with the Korean Natural Farming System
wherein micro-organism played a vital role not
only in enriching the soil but also in
production of rice, vegetables, fish, poultry,
livestock and organic fertilizers.

ACCREDITATION
Department of Tourism
Miner’s Nature Farm is an accredited
agri-tourism site by the Department of
Tourism (DOT) in Zamboanga Peninsula. The
farm has met the DOT standards, including
fire safety and required permits. The area is
conducive and safe also for tourists, among
others.
Miner’s Nature Farm conducts
agriculture-related activities like organic and
natural farming, among others, as well as
lectures on recycling and other environmental
protection and conservation practices.
Other community development
initiatives of the family-owned farm include
advocacies on solid waste management,
organic farming and rice duck farming,
vermiculture, livelihood, and women
empowerment.
It is also engaged in the production of
corn coffee utilizing the corns grown in its
farm.
Agricultural Training Institute (ATI)
The Agricultural Training Institute (ATI)
has certified the Miner’s Nature Farm as a
learning site for integrated and diversified
farming after having complied with all
conditions required for Learning Site for
Agriculture (LSA).
The certification has a five-year
effectivity period from September 5, 2018 to
September 5, 2023.
The LSA is a farm practicing applicable
agricultural technologies, employing doable
farming strategies and operating successfully,
thus, worthy of emulation.
As an LSA, Miner’s Nature Farm will
serve as model or an example to showcase
applicable agriculture technologies and agri-
products/by-products processing
technologies. In this way, our farm is seen to
help improve capabilities of small farmers and
other rural community members.
Miner’s Nature Farm served as venue in
several seminars, trainings, and practical &
hands-on learning of the Women
Empowerment Movement-Rural Improvement
Club (WEMRIC) Dimataling Federation.
Further, it has served as visit area as well for
other farmers, other rural community
members, ATI's training participants and
others interested in agriculture and agri-
products/by-products processing.
The farm has been visited as well by the
Expanded Local Health Board Members
(composed of the Punong Barangays and their
officials, Barangay Health Worker, Barangay
Nutrition Scholar, Municipal Officials,
Department of Health, Rural Midwives, etc.),
Junior Chamber International (JCI)
Zamboanga del Sur chapters, LGU Dimataling
staff and employees, teachers and School
Heads in the different municipalities, tourists,
farmers alike, WEMRIC members from other
chapters in Zamboanga del Sur and more.
