Lack of Ideological Alternatives to the

New Status Quo in Post-War Era

“What we saw in post war period is not the end of history but the
spread of western liberal democracy in whole world”
A famous wordings of well-known policy director of United States; THE FRANCIS
FUKUYMA in his publication “The End Of History” Stated that as liberal
democratic idea is gaining influence in all world so humanity is introduced in the
era of violence and confrontation. Fukuyama argued that the end of cold war is
not only the end of history but also the end of human mankind ideological
evolution. Now world is only dominated by liberalism and democratic world
order.

The demise of Soviet Union in 1991 has put many impacts on international
politics. The end of cold war era also brings an end to ideological rivalries of
communism-capitalism between two major powers the United States and Soviet
Union. The fate of Communism was already decided after the fall of USSR and
Formation of Russia as World Newly Democratic state. United States became the
sole victorious after it and Russia also wanted to maintain its current status. Thus
communism was completely eradicated from world. Only few states were later on
left that was also not considered as the completely communist state. Capitalism
was gaining fame in every part of globe. The end of Cold War change the NATURE
OF WARFARE as there is no direct interstate confrontation take place. World was
moving toward Liberalism; Whose core concept mainly focused on Cooperation,
Freedom, Human rights, protection and liberty. Every state wanted to maintain its
status quo through communication, cooperation.
Looking from the economic and political point of view; the international system,
after post-cold war, moved towards multipolar rather than unipolar. United
States is sole military power but through political lens; china, Russia, France,
Britain emerged as the super powers. Many world organizations came in to being
like the European Union. World Health Organization, The organization of Asia-
Pacific Economic Organization, World Trade Centre.

The major aim of super powers at that era was to maintain the status quo that is
why they undergo in many cooperation treaties to fulfill their interest like the
Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty Signed at that era in 1970’s. According to this
treaty ;( which is mostly sponsored by great power) those having Nuclear
weapons Capability before 1 Jan 1967 were only considered as nuclear weapons
states. No other states are considered as nuclear weapons states after this date.
Thus great power wanted to limit the proliferation of nuclear capability as it
increases the chances of surprise and aggressive attack from other party. Later on
they also undergo in disarmament and arms control process. A large number of
military installations were reduced by both the United States and Russia in post-
cold war period.

Another major development that takes place after the end of Cold war is the
process of globalization. There were many development take place in
communication and information technology triggered by the process of
globalization.
