Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) Camp 2018


The Youth Formation Division of Bureau of Learner Support Services in the Department
of Education conducted a national training for Youth for Environment in Schools Organization
(YES-O) last October 16-19, 2018 held at Baguio Teachers Camp, Baguio City.
Together with Ma’am Ronalyn P. Gonzales, Head Teacher of GVAS Science Department,
it has been a great privileged to represent the division and be part of the said training.
The management of learning during the first day was heart-warming due the welcome
remarks of Dr. May B. Eclar, Regional Director of DepEd CAR and Sir Arnulfo H. Empleo, OIC- Chief
of Youth Formation Division and Ma’am Divine David the Focal Person of YES-O. After the break
out session, the assigned facilitator familiarized all the participants to their room assignments,
groupings and making of flag and group cheer.
One of the striking information in the second day was the understanding of planting
Philippine Native Trees and Importance of Indigenous and Endemic Species. In addition to the
knowledge regarding all the advantages of planting trees, Ms. Celia Tungol gave an emphasis and
cautions in planting foreign trees like mahogany, gmelina and acacia trees’ sap (DAGTA) because
of the implication on the ground which can cause desertification of soil in which new living things
such as plants could not grow and other insects that help the ecosystem would not be live.
“Planting is good, but it is necessary to know what kind of trees should be planted. It is not just
that, but with caring hands enable them to grow”, said Ms. Tungol. On the other hand, Ms. Celia
A. Santiago headed the discussion regarding the Five (5) E’s of Ecological Solid Waste
Management (ESWM) and RA 9003 for Teachers.
Capacitating Teacher-Advisers/ Project Coordinators towards Youth Participation on
Environmental Advocacies- Making of an Action Plan was led by Ms. Angel Espiritu in the third
day of training. While Best Practices on mitigating Climate change through (DRRM) and Solid
waste management is managed by Ms. Marife Villadiego and Sir Edmund Villareal reported the
climate change adoptation. The Eco Teaching: Environmental Education for all was discussed by
Mr. Daniel S. Agan from Department of Trade and Industry. The lecture being thought was used
in the preparation for all the outputs from gallery walk. There is also a topic in visioning of
environment that anyone will dream of YFD consultant in plenary session.
After the input on the Cultural Preparation of Group Presentation based on Talks- theme:
MAKAKALIKASAN-Preparation for Commitment to the preservation of Mother Earth and a
solidarity night was conducted headed by sir Arnulfo Empleyo.
All are enthusiastically participated in the presentation of action plan and group
resolution for Local YES-O Clubs on the last day of seminar. The vision of YES-O club in
collaboration of Student Organization are expected after the teachings, reaching to a green and
well fully oriented studentry in taking care of the environment.
