PROFILE
SALUR JUTE MILL
A BREIF PROFILE
The state government, finally, took a decision in 1980 to implement the project in
a phased manner. Accordingly, a certificate of Registration has been obtained from Ministry
of Textiles for manufacturing 7200 MTs of jute per annum. Then the Government converted
the subsidiary into a joint venture (50:50 partnership) unit of APIDC with Sri K.K.Bajoria of
Chittivalsa jute mills. The unit went commercial production from December 1986.
The unit started its operations without adequate infrastructural facilities, which
resulted in incurring huge losses from the first year of its operations for various reasons beyond
the control of management, imbalance in machine capacities, un-trained labour force drawn
from agriculture sector who have no industrial culture, non-sanction of working capital finance
by nationalized/commercial banks, etc. The unit became sick within a short span of 3 years and
the entire net- worth of the company has been completely eroded. New Delhi declared APFL
as s sick industrial unit under the provisions of section 3(1) (0) of sick Industrial Companies
Act, 1985 on 1.8.1991.
Hon’ble B.F.I.R, New Delhi approved the change of management in 1991 and sri
R.C. Bothra and Associates have been inducted as new promoters in the place of sri
K.K.Bajoria & Associates. The new promoters took various steps for revival of the unit.
Hon’ble New Delhi sanctioned schemes did not derive any positive results for various reasons
beyond the control of the Management.
Sri T. Sapatagiri & associates (Sri T. Sapatagiri and family own two jute mills at
kothavalsa) stepped into the unit in 2001-02. Hon’ble BIFR sanctioned a Modified Draft
Rehabilitation scheme at its Hearing held on 3.12.2002 for revival of APFL. They have removed
the debt burden from the shoulders of the company by making one-time settlement of dues with
APIDC/APSFC and acquired the Government shareholding also. Sri T. sapatagiri and Sri
T.Nagesh, chief promoters took various steps for revival of the unit. Ever since Sri T. Sapatagiri
took over from the hands of the outgoing promoters, Sri R.C. Bothra and Associates, the unit
started earning profits and the accumulated losses wiping off gradually.

Spinning Process
Batching
Raw material i.e., Raw jute will be procured from nearby jute growing areas
and registered dealers for manufacturing medium count yarn and for light count Hessian yarn.
The procurement will be from west Bengal the jute bales weight about 135kg-
148kg per bale. These bales will be opened. Separated each Mora, are selected according to the
quality of warp, and make small Mora of KG. The said Mora will be passed through first
machine called jute spreader. In this machine, jute Batching oil & water emulsion, which is
prepared from Emulsion plant will be applied on the jute. This will be piled as required more
or less 24 Hr to 48Hr depending upon the quality of the jute. After opening the pile, the root
portion will be cut manually to suit the further processing of the jute fiber. The cut jute will be
further processed through jute spreader machine and piled for 48Hr to 72Hr according to the
hardness of the feed table of the breaker card and carded silver will be collected in rolls
weighing from 16kgs to 20Kgs per roll (5.6” width & 20” dia). The piled cut jute will be passed
through teaser card and collected as loose-teased silver. These teased silver and piled long jute
(for higher count yarn) will be passed through Breaker card collected in rolls.
The carded roll will be fed at finisher card with 10 to 11 number (called doubling)
of rolls and collected in rolls called finisher card roll subsequently it passes through three stages
drawing for wrap system and two stages drawing for wrap system and two stages for weft
system of doubling in 1:2 ratio through new technology high speed Rotary Gill 1st Drawing
then doubling in 1:3 ratio through new technology high speed Rotary gill 2nd drawing & Finally
1:2 doubling from TC Finisher Drawing. In all the three stages, the silver will be collected in
cans 18”×40”:16”×40” & 12”×40” respectively.
Spinning:
Warp system drawing silver will be fed on 4-1/4” SD spinning frame and weft
system Drawing silver will be fed on 5-1/2 SD spinning Frame. As per requirements, spinning
frames will be set so that desired quality of yarn will come out of the machine i.e., for wrap
yarn 10.25lbs, 9lbs, 8.5, etc. and weft 26.5lbs,and 28lbs, etc.
Winding:
The wrap yarn will be subsequently wound into spool winding machines and a
portion will be fed on twisting machine for manufacturing piled yarn for sewing thread. The
weft yarn will be wound on cop winding machine to make Loader cop of 10” size and make
bundle of 14Kg.
Weaving process:
The yarn spools around 700nos. will be put on the creel of the beaming machine.
The yarn will pass through sow box filled with water & starch solution and a portion of the
yarn through dyed yarn as per specification. The same will be passed through cylinder and
wound into beam Barrel called Weavers beam.
These beams will be fed on loom and cop will be used for weft insertion from the
loader machine for manufacturing sacking cloth for Hessian through Hand shuttle for
interlacement with wrap to produce the cloth. After weaving the cloth will be unrolled on the
damping machine and may be inspected depending upon on the weaving quality.
Calendar:
After processing the cloth on damping machine, the fiber passes through calendar
machine.
The cloth will be cut as per size of the bag and passes through Hemming Machine for
mouth sewing and subsequently through Heracles sewing for side sewing. The said bags will
be checked and bundles containing 25 bags will be prepared with knots.
Bale press/Packing/Dispatch:
Sacking/Hessian Bags etc., are packed in press of 300/400/500 bags per bale.
Packed gunny bags will be stored in bonded warehouse packed goods will be dispatched
as per the instructions of the sales department.
