INTRODUCTION

Every year, the world produces 2.12 billion tons of trashes (The World Counts,

2019). Philippines is the third world’s largest ocean polluter. The country has estimated

421 major rivers and 20 large river basins. There are more than 50 rivers that are

highly disgraced by the people due to their improper disposal (“What are the major river

in the Philippines?”, 2019). Aquatic litters originated on land and some of it are swept to

rivers due to sewer overflows (Engler, 2016). Dr Paul Clark said: “All of this waste,

which was mostly plastic, was hidden underwater so Londoners probably don’t realise that

it’s there. Plastic can have a damaging impact on underwater life. These toxic chemicals,

in high doses, could harm the health of wildlife.” (Gray, 2019). Rivers drain about 75%

of the earth’s ground and carries nutrients around the places. It plays a big role for the

people and animals because it can be a source of food, supply fresh drinking water and

serve as habitats (“Why are rivers important?”, 2019). Governments looked for ways to

reduce the trashes and clean the water. According to Linquist (2016), John Kellet is tired

of seeing the trashes on the Baltimore Harbor which leads him to invent a solar and

hydro- powered trash collector called Mr. Trash Wheel that clears the Harbor and pulls

the debris from it. Each day, this has been pulled 22.5 tons of trashes. Afterwards, these

will be transferred to a waste-energy facility to generate electricity (McMahon, 2016). For

that reason, the researchers have come up with an idea of producing a prototype

cleaning equipment to depollute the river from debris, litters of trashes and decrease the

people’s tiredness in cleaning the river. Aside from that, there will be reduction of

pollutants in the river. The beneficiaries of this study are mainly the people who live

near the river. This study will be of help in preventing people from getting sick. It will

also help the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in sustaining
development for the environment and natural resources such as river. Farmers are also

benefited by this study because the water from the river can be used for irrigation to

fertile their soil.

METHODOLOGY

A. Research Locale

This study will be conducted at Cuyacot’s residence located at Lower Cabatangan,

Zamboanga City wherefore the researchers will design and manufacture the components,

Tumaga river wherein the testing of the product will take place.

B. Research Design

This study will use the After only with control research design.

C. Materials and Methods

A. Creating the Base and Upper Layer

The base compose of (250 ml) plastic bottle with a length of 15 inches and a width of 10

inches. The upper layer has the same measurement of 15 inches length and 10 inches width.

B. Attaching the Indicator Alarm

A foil attach in both upper and base layer. In upper layer the foil attach under the

plywood, while in base layer the foil attach in upper portion in order the indicator alarm could

met. Each foil attached with a positive charge (12 voltz) of wire in upper layer. The base layer
has a negative charge (wire). If the two bases meet the opposite charge, the electricity generated

on each charge goes to the siren. This can create a sound that indicate the trash collector carry a

maximum weight (g) of trashes.

C. Connecting DC Motor

The four (4) DC motor attach in both end of two (2) connected cans. In middle part of

conveyers belt, the two (2) cans have no DC motor attached. The conveyers belt has length of 10

inches and 13 inches width. The wires will connect in a 24 voltz battery, to enable switch on and

off.

D. Combining the Parts

Since the parts are assemble, combine them one by one. The conveyers belt with a length

of 10 inches and width of 13 inches will attach in upper layer of trash collector. The conveyers

belt carries the waste to the upper layer where trash collects. Attach the automatic remote control

system with the propeller and the remote to the rear of the trash collector, this will depend the

movement of trash collector.

E. Testing

After making the trash collector, the researchers will test the effective of the study. The

trash collector will test at Tumaga River, Zamboanga City.
