PROBLEM ON AGRICULTURE

Government policy

Government policy can definitely affect farming production. The quality and quantity of economic inputs
of farming system can easily be determined by government. However, sometimes government policy
fails to influence farming output through subsidizing.

First of all, the government develops agriculture so as to raise the gross national product (GNP). It can
either impose direct or indirect measures. Subsidies, low-interest loan and guaranteed price can raise
the quantity of farming output, i.e. the yield. With the increase of capital, quality of farming output can
also be raised. For examples, the use of combine-harvestor can ensure the crop to be fresh. Better seeds
can be produced. In addition, quotas are implemented to discourage a particular kind of product
importing from other countries. The domestic production increases after the imposition of quotas.
These directly influence the production of farming.

Some governments, develop agriculture training schemes to give advice on new methods. In this way,
the yield can be increased. Besides, some government would develop research and development
project so as to improve the yield and quality of technology including the scientific farming method,
mechanization, and soil conservation etc. For example, the genetic food is a new kind of products. The
food is rich in nutrients. The government also subsidies the transport cost or open the domestic or
overseas market. It encourages the farm production.

Government subsidies may also be offset by malmanagement of the subsidies. For example, if a farmer
uses all of the subsidies for purchasing fertilizers. Overuse of fertilizers will cause eutrophication. It
pollutes the environment. Besides, political instability may also affect farming. For example, wars may
draw labour to warfield. And products are drawn b government. Sometimes, outputs are destroyed in
advance. Furthermore, farmers may not aim to maximize profits but only to gain interests. Perception,
traditional believes and farming inertia reduces the incentive of farmers.

When the demand of products decreases, the effect of government subsidies will then become slightly.
The synthesis substitutes the rubber. The rubber plantation faces the problems from the recession of
market demand. The people also change their taste on the foods. The organic food is healthy for people.
The demand for the organic food increases.

Finally, if the cost increases to a great extent those farmers cannot afford due to inflation rate or high
import tax. They would give up their production.

In conclusion, the government plays an important role in the farming activities. However, in some cases,
government subsidies may not necessarily lead to a corresponding increase in farming outputs.
Farmers themselves

Some of the farmers are Lack of Information from irrigation techniques, appropriate machineries,
suitable varieties, and cultivation techniques. Our farmers have a LOT to learn in order to achieve our
Food Self-sufficiency goal. With the right knowledge, agriculture can be profitable. From crop cycles, to
inter-cropping, zero tillage and intensive agricultural practices, we can reap the rewards and results of
years of RESEARCH.

Farm area

One of the major problems facing agriculture is the loss of agricultural land, because as more land is lost,
it will become more difficult to produce the amount of food needed to feed the growing human
population. Most of our farms are have already shrunk in size due to the fast growth of our population.
Therefore, our country needs to build more houses, sacrificing the agricultural sector of our country.

Present generation

Ageing Farmers - with BPOs, office jobs, and other fancy corporate titles that you can have in the city,
our youth is now shying away from the mud, the heat and constant hard labor that agricultural work is
offering. But this type of agriculture work should be in the past. There are paddy boots to protect from
the mud, there are sunscreen, longsleeves, and hats to protect from the scorching sun and there are
machineries to do the hard labor. Agriculture should have a motto of “Don't work hard, Work Smart”,
because there are smarter ways of doing things, which brings us to success.

Inadequate management programs on soil, pests and diseases

Pests and crop diseases have been a major problem in the agricultural sector of the Philippines. It lacks
funding from the government. If these pests and diseases were to be left out of control, famine would
crawl across our country.

soils have been used for growing crops over thousands of years without caring much for replenishing.
This has led to depletion and exhaustion of soils resulting in their low productivity. The average yields of
almost all the crops are among t e lowest in the world. This is a serious problem which can be solved by
using more manures and fertilizers.
Manures and fertilizers play the same role in relation to soils as good food in relation to body. Just as a
well-nourished body is capable of doing any good job, a well nourished soil is capable of giving good
yields. It has been estimated that about 70 per cent of growth in agricultural production can be
attributed to increased fertilizer application.

Pests, germs and weeds cause heavy loss to crops which amounted to about one third of the total field
produce at the time of Independence. Biocides (pesticides, herbicides and weedicides) are used to save
the crops and to avoid losses. The increased use of these inputs has saved a lot of crops, especially the
food crops from unnecessary wastage. But indiscriminate use of biocides has resulted in wide spread
environmental pollution which takes its own toll.

Equipment and technologies

Nowadays, everything is modernized using technology. Technology has replaced even the most recent
techniques for better and efficient outcomes. Earlier everything was manual; now everything is
automatic and more advanced. Technology has been a great asset for humankind.

One of the biggest needs of humanity for its existence is agriculture. Even the farm sector is not
untouched by technology. More and more agricultural practices have now been transformed using
technology. Now, it is possible to grow crops even in a desert with the help of technology.

Crops have become advanced and secure. Significant changes have been made in the irrigation, farming
and planting techniques.

Since we are just a developing country we do not have much money for spending in agricultural needs,
machinery needed for this has become a great expense for our pockets.

Our technology regarding agriculture is not given enough attention. Our country lacks machinery and
technology to improve our produce.
