1. Bismil-lahi wa‟l-hamdulillah, wa‟l-salaatu wa‟l-salaamu 'alaa Rasoolillah!

“LEAVE NOT YOUR GODS”

Idolatry began prior to Prophet Noah‟[p] arrival with people who worshipped Allaah
Ta`aala, but associated partners with Allaah Ta`aala in His Attributes and worship. Those
who suggest they adored independent deities stead of Allaah are in the wrong; rather Noah‟s
people imagined their saints intercessors between them and Allaah Ta`aala. They‟d offer
servitude to these saints hoping for their pleasure and subsequent closeness to Allaah
Ta‟aala. They believed by virtue of their own lofty status saints are able to aid whomever
they wish, as Allaah turns down not that which His friends wish. Leaders among Noah‟s
people, for establishment self-rule, built a hierarchy of saints through whom request ought
to be made, from the lowest to the highest of saints who ultimately passes it unto Allaah, as
per their false idea of intercession. Polytheists of Noah‟s time and that of pre-Islaamic
Arabia, add modern „muslims‟ associationists to the mix all have common notions: saints
are beloved unto Allaah Who out of divine Love has assigned them with certain super-
natural powers by which saints are able to perform paranormal feats like escorting devotees
irrespective of place or time, providing them with aid no matter what the tribulation, power
to grant wishes and take out whomsoever they will from the fire of Hell etc. These are basic
concepts that serve as pathway to associationism (Shirk), a reality the Qur‟an reiterates over
and over for believers so they might heed, and the basic cause of such concepts is erroneous
information regarding intercession and un-founded method of mediation thru saints.
Before outlining correct mediation (waseelah) we hope to un-veil origin and reality behind
such intercession taken up by deviants in religion, which they so vehemently propagate.

Polytheists of Noah‟s time and then of pre-Islamic era adored several deities, five idols were
prominent and commonly worshipped by Arab pagans and their pagan predecessors, the
Qur‟an therefore merely mentions five deities in relation to Prophet Nooh‟s[p] people. They
were named Wadd, Suwa, Yaghuth, Ya‟uq, Nasr, as in Surah Nooh, ayah 23. Ibn
`Abbaas[ra], commenting on the verse, said: “The names (of the idols) formerly belonged to
some pious men of the people of Noah, and when they died Satan inspired their people to
prepare and place idols at the places where they used to sit, and to call those idols by their
names. The people did so, but the idols were not worshipped till those people (who initiated
them) had died and the origin of the idols had become obscure, whereupon people began
worshipping them.” [Sahih Bukhari, 6/60/442] As narrated, deities taken up people prior to
coming of Noah[p] were in real noble-men (awliya‟) of Allaah Ta`aala admired by
contemporaries and posterity alike in junction with Allaah‟s command, until Satan came;
mis-leading them to overstate in respect, honor, carve statues and pictures, camp at grave-
side, all in reverence for the pious friends of Allaah Ta`aala. Although seemingly harmless,
gradual faintness of initial purpose that brought about idols led subsequent generations to
serious exaggerations. But Satan was not through; he would come again but on this occasion
inspiring them to venerate awliya‟ Allaah as deities under Allaah Ta`aala, exactly what
caused the wrath of God to descend after blank refusal on the part of pagans to accept
Prophetic guidance that appeared in form of Noah[p] causing complete destruction and end
to associationism (Shirk) until later generations well after Noah‟s[p] demise. Its un-clear
how specifically after complete annihilation, shirk spread once more; some suggest people
heard names of ancient deities from those who survived the flood and some also relate how
Satan aided them in finding remains of idols which they then re-built, yet some narrate it
was `Amr bin Luhai who discovered these lost idols of ancient deities. Nevertheless, it is
sure that as ignorance in later generations spread once more, as people started innovating
in matter of religions as opposed to abiding firmly by Prophetic methodology, they once
again fell into paganism, re-built idols of the same deities and began worshipping. Wadd,
signifying love and affection, was the deity of Bani Kalb bin Wabash, whose shrine was
located at Dawmat al-Jandal. His image was of a gigantic man and his adorer was named
`Abdu‟l-Wudd (slave of Wudd). Suwa`, shaped in female figure, was the goddess of
Hamadan tribe or the Hudhayl tribe, the shrine of whom was in Ruhat near Yanbu` a
village of Madina. Nasr meaning vulture was the god of the Himyar tribe and worshipped on
Balkha`. His temple was called baytu‟l-Nasor (house of Nasor) and devotees ahlu‟l-Nasor
(people of Nasor). Ya`uq who signified preservation from harm, was worshipped by the
khaywin, a branch of the Hamadan tribe in Yemen under the figure of a horse. Out of the
five Yaghuth is most relevant to our subject matter; he was worshipped throughout Yemen
with figure of a lion. His devotee was called `Abdu‟l-Yaghuth (slave of Yaghuth). The name
„Yaghuth‟ like others is not really a name; rather a zealot designated title. „Yaghuth‟ means
„helper‟ or „who aids‟, his servants delight in poetry;

“Yaghuth led us unto the intended goal,

And we vanquished them before the morning.”

The polytheists relied on his aid in hardship calling upon him as the massive flood grew even
larger. They thought Wadd loved too much to let them perish; „who‟s intercession Allaah reject
not‟, or so they thought. Alliance with Ya`uq guaranteed survival, „how shall we distress when
Ya`uq preserves us?!‟ they‟d boast. And then there‟s Yaghuth „whose succor not the severest
torment can surpass‟. Yet of the awliya‟ with whom they so dearly allied with none were able to
intervene or alleviate the punishment of Allaah Ta`aala when inflicted, Allaah Ta`aala says:
Because of their sins (of Shirk) they were drowned (in the flood), and were made to
enter the Fire (of Punishment): and they found- in lieu of Allah- none to help them. [Al-
Qur'an, 71:25] Their sin in general was blind adherence to clergies over prophetic light, un-checked
robotic bigotry of elders and un-willingness in abandoning polytheism i.e. their rituals, sacrifices,
supplications, reliance and love towards saints of Allaah that grew beyond limits to the extent that
saints, not Allaah Ta`aala, became centralized objects of the heart and mind (khayaal) blurring
distinction between servanthood and Lordship, which further nourished into ideas of Unification
(union of man with God), Infusion (God‟s dwelling in man), and One Being (Wujud al-Wahid),
contrary to revealed religious Tawhid. Consequently, the torment of Allaah arrives and as it
occurred; none of those fancied awliya‟ could answer their supplicants against Allaah‟s wrath.
Sadly, polytheism still exists among our brethren who wittingly, in case of clergies, and un-
wittingly with respect to the masses, have kept alive the tradition of ancient pagans. Thus in
similar fashion modern day polytheists depend on „saints‟ in virtually all aspects of life; „hoping for
a son or two? Shah Jamal gives you three!‟ „Scarcity of food but be not shy; say “Ganj Bakhsh” and
lo! he is nigh.‟ „No ship sets voyage except Khuwaja Ghareeb takes ashore‟. “Bari Bari Imam Bari;
turn my deteriorating destiny!” And who can forget: “Luminous is Light (God), troubles out of
sight!” „Distress evades whence „O Ghawth‟, „O Ghawth‟ is prayed.‟ Ironically, both „Yaghuth‟ (who
helps) ‫ث ي غو‬and „Ghawth‟ (helper) ‫غوث‬come from the same ‫غاث‬ghaath (aid) and both relied
upon by polytheists of old and present. As pagan mushriks summoned Yaghuth in ordeal, so also
modern deviant in Islaam invoke Ghawth:

“Can any difficulty reach me when you (O Ghawth) are the cause of my courage?!
And can harm touch me in this world when you are my helper?!”

Modern day muslims are a step ahead, out doing their ancient pagan ancestors by adding „Ghawth
al-Ghiyaas‟ ‫غوث ال غ ياث‬i.e. Aid to all succors, an essential attribute of Allaah, the Majestic. These
„saints‟, as assumed, are group of about four thousand on whom rests governance of the whole
wide universe.
As Islam in its early age spread to alien lands disclosure of foreign myths and folklore caused lax
Islaamists to trace ideas that not only were pagan in origin but also opposed Tawhid, Islaam‟s core
creed. Among deviant extravagant Sufis there exists a complete spiritual hierarchy of „saints‟ on
whom well-being of universe lays. On top of this sacred rule is the Ghawth (Aider) or Qutb
(Supreme Pole), who, as we shall see later, is no different than its Hindu counterpart. Among Sufis,
and Hindus as a matter of fact, belief in the Supreme Pole (Qutb) entails that worship of Allaah
(God) is not possible except thru (worship of) the Qutb (or Ghawth). Denial of a Ghawth as a
consequence means denial of God as Ghawth is God‟s perfect image and mediator who reflects
Gods mercy on the world. Thus it is said: “he who does not know the Qutb is not but an infidel!”
Without whom, as in Hindu mythology; “the earth and the heavens cannot subsist.” He, as the
perfect divine image of God “has the ability to change what Allaah decreed” and “is directly
responsible for the welfare of the entire world” etc. Hujwiri[r] (d.465), a prominent sufi tells us
that Qutb is “the pivot of the universe” and mentioned how “each night the Awtaad (supporters)
must go round the whole universe. If there should be any place on which their eyes do not fall and
some im-perfection appears there, they must then inform the Qutb in order that he may point his
attention on the weak spot, and that by his blessing the im-perfection may be removed.” He
narrates a story from Muhammad ibn `Ali al-Hakim al-Tirmidhi (d.300), another sufi famous for
his book on „Khatamu‟l-Awliya‟ (Seal of the Friends), that once Tirmidhi set out with his shaykh to
a jungle and there they saw “a golden throne placed under a green tree on the bank of a fountain. A
person clad in beautiful raiment was seated on the throne.” All of a sudden people began gathering
around him until they were forty (i.e. the Abdaal). The man could wave his hand towards the sky
and food would miraculously appear for all to feast. On the way back Tirmidhi asked his master
about the place and the man. So he told him: “the place was Jungle of the Israelites and the
man (a jew) was the Qutb on whom the order of the universe depends!!!”This „Supreme
Pole‟ (Qutb) is followed in rank by (depending on sufi‟s „ilham‟) the four Awtaad (supporters) who
govern the four cardinal points. Seven Abraar (Pious) or Abdaal (Substitutes) running seven
continents, and eight Nujaabaa‟ (Nobles) corresponding to eight heavenly spheres. And then
twelve Nuqabaa‟ (chiefs), supposedly ruling the twelve Zodiac signs! The great scholar Ibnu‟l-
Taymiyyah[r] (d.728) said: “All of the hadith which have been narrated as words of the Prophet
(sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam) about mysterious personages of a specific number are all false
hadith, none of them has been authenticated as being the words of the Prophet. Examples of these
fabrications are: that there are specific numbers of awliyaa';abdaal, nuqabaa', nujabaa', awtaad,
or aqtaab, and that their number is four, seven, twelve, forty, seventy, three hundred, three
hundred and thirteen, or that there is only one Qutb, etc. None of this is authentic, it is all found in
weak and fabricated hadith, and the first generations of Muslims never uttered these words at all
except for the word abdaal.” Hujwiri[r], however, considers: “He (Allaah) has made the Saints
ruler of the universe and now they have become entirely devoted to His business, and have ceased
to follow their sensual affections. Through their blessing the rain falls from heaven, and through
the purity of their lives the plants spring up from the earth, and through their spiritual influence
the Muslims gain victories over the unbelievers.”
Previously we asserted the Supreme Pole (Qutb) a product of Hindus celestial contemplation. In
Hindu mythology, the Qutb (Pole Star) is the blessed servant of Vishnu (God Manifest) whom they
devote Dhruva (the Immovable) ‫دھروا‬, son of Uttana-pada, grandson of Manu I, in contrast with
his sufi relative the Ghawth. Dhruva, as in Hindu mythology, is not simply the Polar Star around
which the stars revolve but also the axis thru whom Vishnu sprays spiritual bliss, without him
God‟s mercy shall not descend making subsistence an impossibility. So in reality there exists
nothing except entirely depends and revolves around the Qutb. Of the most sacred Hindus books,
the Vishnu Purana, reads: “The form of the mighty Hari which is present in heaven, consisting of
the constellations, is that of a porpoise, with Dhruva situated in the tail. As Dhruva revolves, it
causes the moon, sun, and stars to turn round also; and the lunar asterisms follow in its circular
path; for all the celestial luminaries are in fact bound to the Polar-Star (Qutb) by aerial cords.
The porpoise-like figure of the celestial sphere is upheld by Narayana (Krishna), who himself, in
planetary radiance, is seated in its heart; whilst the son of Uttanapada, Dhruva, in consequence
of his adoration of the lord of the world, shines in the tail of the stellar porpoise… all (on earth)
are supported by the rains by which food is produced. But the rain is evolved by the sun; the sun
is sustained by Dhruva; and Dhruva is supported by the celestial porpoise-shaped sphere, which
is one with Narayana. Narayana, the primeval existent, and eternally enduring, seated in the
heart of the stellar sphere, the supporter of all beings.” [Vishnu Purana, Book II Chapter IX] The
Shrimad Devi Bhagawatamdescribing the magnificence of the Qutb relates: “The Great Bhagavat
(devotee of God), the most respectful, Sriman Dhruva, the son of Uttanapada, is established there
with Indra, Agni, Kasyapa (primordial Hindu gods) and Dharma and the Naksattras. The
visitors pay to him always their respects. He is the patron (ghawth) of those who live till the end
of a Kalpa (time). He is engaged in serving the lotus-feet of the Bhagavan (God). He has been
made by God Himself the Pillar round whom all the planets, stars, and the luminary bodies are
revolving always and with great force in the Zodiac and in the celestial Heavens. The Devas
(cosmic deities) also worship (obey) him. He, resplendent in his own glory, illumines and
manifests all. As beasts tied to yoke go on tilling, so the planets and stars, fixed on the Zodiac, go
quickly round and round this Dhruva, the Pole Star (Qutb); some nearer, some further distant in
spheres, propelled by Vayu (wind deity). As the hawks hover round the sky, so the above-
mentioned planets, go completely round and round under their own Karmas and controlled by
the Vayu in the sky.” In a fascinating assimilation to Sufic method of spiritual development
(tareeqat), it is described how Dhruva at a young age, was instructed by his mother to mediate God
in seclusion of deep forests. By practicing extreme austere and self-inflicted suffering (tapasya), at
times abstaining from food and water for months, he soon established himself so much in God‟s
reminder that Dhruva attained by Vishnu‟s grace the honorable state of Pivot (Qutb) and became
source of spiritual guidance for all Hindus. The Awtaad (Supporters) governing cardinal directions
is also facsimiled from Hindu myths involving „Lokapalas‟ or Guardians of the world from all four
directions (dishas). They are Indra, Varuna, Kubera, and Yama. Sometime are included amidst
eight or ten with Brahma the Zenithal Lord. Indra is the god of weather and warfare with thunder
his primary weapon he uses, with Vishnu‟s help, to halt the dragon Vritra from destroying vital
elements of existence such as water and light while guarding the eastern quarter of the visible
cosmos. Varuna is the deity of ocean and western guardian of the cosmos, chief of the Adityas
riding a creature similar to Leviathan (Biblical sea monster)as cetus. Kubera is the god who
bestows riches whilst governing the northern cosmos. “He is said to have performed austerities
(tapasya) for a thousand years, in reward for which Brahma, the Creator, gave him immortality
and made him god of wealth (‫)گ نج ب خش‬, guardian of all the treasures of the earth, the nidhi
(treasures) which he was to give out to whom they were destined.” [Wikipedia] And Yama, seated
on a buffalo (taurus), covers the realm of death; astringent of souls and judge over them, he
protects the southern hemisphere. These are followed by eight Vasus, eleven Rudras, and twelve
Adityas as per the Upanishads. Notion at hand stems from the philosophical concept of Oneness of
Being (Wahatu‟l-Wujood) and Monism (Wahadiyya). Where in Islaam; God is unique in His
Essence, Qualities, and Acts; that He is absolutely free and un-like all phenomenal percept. The
Hindus, along with philosopher in garb of Tasawwuf perceive God as the One Real Being which
underlies all phenomena.
The universe to philosophers is ancient (originless) and outward expression of the One Real (God).
They imagine that before its evolution, the universe was identical with God and thereafter; God is
identical with universe. The apparent cosmos thus is an evolved image of God but essentially
remains One with Him. Some Pretenders to Sufism declare the Prophet[s] as the Primordial
designation from which evolved the rest of existence and the Causal Agent thru Whom God
conducts His business, whilst deceiving people by utilizing the word „create‟ under the intention
„emerge‟. They even fabricated hadiths like this baseless narration: “O Jabir, first thing created by
Allaah was your Prophet's Light (Noor)” resembling monist philosophers who see everything as
(manifestation of) God and refer to primary source of subsistence as the „First Intellect‟ or
„Primum Mobile‟ meanwhile denying the Qur‟anic Omnipotent flawless Creator of the heavens and
earth Who is distinct and separate from His creation. See: [Al-Furqaan; bayna Awliyaa‟l-
Rahmaan wa Awliyaa‟l-Shaytaan). No wonder then people like Osho Rajneesh, farthest from the
truth of religion, can say: “I am not a Mohammedan (muslim), but I am a Sufi all the same.” A Sufi,
he claims: “need not be a muslim!” True perhaps from mystical view-point but religiously far from
accurate. True Tasawwuf is not empty of Islaam, neither can it stand without Islaam its basis.
Higher spirituality demands authority accompanied by authenticity and there‟s no greater
authority than revealed religion, lack thereof leaves one high minus a ladder, a perilous state
indeed! If Tasawwuf represents the pinnacle of Islaamic spirituality then it only comes under
Islaam‟s wider boundary. The Prophet[s] said: “The head of the affair is Islaam and its central
pillar is prayer. And the tip of its peak is jihaad in the path of Allah.” Moreover; Islaam as a
complete Deen (way of life) embodies Ihsan (doing the beautiful) and if Tasawwuf claims to be that
then it must submit to Islaam, otherwise it strays from the truth into pagan mysticism and in
hands of its upholders. Though it might sound surprising to note Hindu philosophical ideas in
Sufic texts pertaining to various ideologies, it is true that much of their concepts in creed do stem
from Hindu and Buddhist mysticism, a reality which Sufis, apparent from Tirmidhi‟s story, accept
in all consciousness. Hujwiri[r] thought, likewise many present-day un-aware folk, that narratives
regarding men of unseen (rijaalu‟l-Ghayb) were based on traditional evidence (ahadith of the
Prophet[s]), exposing his un-familiarity with veracity of narrations. Nevertheless, he[r] need be
commended for demonstrating how religious accuracy be actualized: infer from the Holy Book and
Prophetic Sunnah. Abu‟l-Qasim al-Junayd al-Baghdadi[r] (d.298) said: “The knowledge of ours
(involving spirituality) is defined by the Qur'an and Sunnah. Whoever has not studied the Qur'an
and written the hadith is not qualified to speak about this knowledge of ours.” And as we do thus,
even a haphazard approach struggles to find any kind of spiritual hierarchy in the two sources of
Islaam, which in turn could not be clearer in stance versus influence of stars on worldly life. The
Illuminator of secrets, the Qur‟an offers no sway to stars except shooting of devils, and tracking
path, and calculation of time. The Prophet[p] of Allaah mentioned in a qudsi: “Don't you know
what your Lord said;„I have never endowed My bondsmen with a favor, but a section
amongst them disbelieved it and said: Star, it was due to the stars‟.” [Sahih Muslim, 133]
In another narration Zaid bin Khalid[ra] described that he went out with Allah's Apostle in the
year of Al-Hudaibiya. “One night it rained and Allah's Apostle led us in the Fajr prayer and (after
finishing it), turned to us and said, “Do you know what your Lord has said?” We replied; “Allah
and His Apostle know it better.” He said: “Allah said: „My slaves got up believing in Me, And
disbelieving in Me. The one who said: We have been given rain through Allah's Mercy
and Allah's Blessing and Allah's Bounty, thus he is a believer in Me, and is a
disbeliever in the star. And whosoever said: We have been given rain because of such-
and-such star, thus he is a believer in the star, and is a disbeliever in Me‟.” [Sahih
Bukhari, 5/59/468] Stars are no more effective than idols, idolaters designate sculptures to awliya‟
and thereunto offer supplications, so also people imagine cosmos consisting of spiritual entities,
awliya‟ to be precise, believing they regulate affaires of the universe. The Qur‟anic ayaat
condemning idolatry are equally applicable to both parties.
Allaah Ta`aala gathers the words of Prophet Abraham[p] as after rejecting adhereance of ancestor
idolatry, he turns to the sky and comprehends the constellation; Lo! Abraham said to his father
Azar: "Takest thou idols for gods? For I see thee and thy people in manifest error." So
also did We show Abraham the power and the laws of the heavens and the earth, that
he might (with understanding) have certitude. When the night covered him over, He
saw a star: He said: "This is my Lord." But when it set, He said: "I love not those that
set." When he saw the moon rising in splendour, he said: "This is my Lord." But when
the moon set, He said: "unless my Lord guide me, I shall surely be among those who
go astray." When he saw the sun rising in splendour, he said: "This is my Lord; this is
the greatest (of all)." But when the sun set, he said: "O my people! I am indeed free
from your (guilt) of giving partners to Allah. "For me, I have set my face, firmly and
truly, towards Him Who created the heavens and the earth, and never shall I give
partners to Allah." [Al-Qur'an, 6.74:79] Pagans during Abrahamic era were of the same
philosophical belief that impersonates souls to celestial bodies. They adored stars and planets
along with some earthly materials which too were personified with adequate symbol and idols.
They would direct minor prayers to these „lower gods‟ and arranged altars in shrines and sacrificed
before idols. Sin (moon deity) and Shamash (sun god) were their primary deities. Sin (Nannar)
was worshiped in Ur and Harran, held „god of wisdom‟ and „creator of all‟. Seen as the Pivot (Qutb)
of the skies, he controlled heavenly spheres and objects that ran its course. Shamash was the
guardian (mawla) and patron (dastgeer) of Lasra. Babylonian associationists designated Shamash
with attributes including divine control over destiny, granter of rain, knower of secrets in heart,
lawgiver, reviler of sin and upholder of justice. Muslims nowaday have their own Shamash, i mean
„Shah Shammash Sarkar‟ whose revered all over Pakistan. I have known from hearsay that if there
be excessive heat, its thought Shah Shammash (sun) must be dis-pleased and so to gratify him
sacrifices (nazar) are offered at his shrine! Shamash‟s „knowledge of secrets‟ reminds me of our
own Shahbaz Qalendar who is said to „know the mysteries of the heart‟ aswell. These and above
beliefs are all part of what the Prophet Muhammad[s] described as the four inclinations prevalent
in his[s] ummah from the time of ignorance (yawmu‟l-Jahiliya), they are; pride is one‟s class and
family lineage, doubting family origins, wailing and weeping over the dead, and hoping to attain
blessing from influence of stars. Abraham[p] al-Haneef (the Steadfast) saw how each pagan deity
had limitation and was confined to specific law un-able to breach, and could not help but obey a
flawless design subservient to humankind, lending support for a sole Creator far beyond and
glorified of what pagans, old and new, ascribed.
Tawassul (Waseelah) thru prophets, saints, dervishes, does not necessitate their possessing
galactic divine super-human powers of causing life and death, regulating universal affaires,
removing difficulty and granting bliss, bestowing rain and sustenance, power to oversee and
comprehension of minutest things, attributes even pagan Arabs acknowledged solely befitting
Allaah, because in that case; even false pagan deities would‟ve deserved appropriate worship.
Hujwiri‟[r] statement: “He (Allaah) has made the Saints ruler of the universe and now they have
become entirely devoted to His business, and have ceased to follow their sensual affections.
Through their blessing the rain falls from heaven, and through the purity of their lives the plants
spring up from the earth, and through their spiritual influence the Muslims gain victories over the
unbelievers...” is plausible and conciliatory with Islaam only if taken metaphorically, that is; via
blessing of noble-men Allaah causes respite to others. During his[s] lifetime the Prophet‟[s] was
indeed the spiritual pivot (Qutb) through whom Allaah‟s blessing reached the ummah.
Demonstratively; the companions[ra] would petition the Prophet[s] to beseech Allaah and He, the
Most High would grant their wish, or relieve suffering through blessing of his[s] holy character. In
such cases the awliya‟ are certainly a means of aid to believers, whereas; the mythology resembling
Hindu cosmologization of humans taken up by later deviants in religion is by no means proper
Islamic connotation of universal order and cosmic design but stamps pagan hallmark all over.
Tawassul excludes the Shirk of supplicating deceased prophets[s] and saints directly or imposing
their influence upon Allaah by invoking Him „for sake of so and so...!‟ for none impel God‟s Will.
Tawassul linguistically means „way of approach‟ or „attainment resource‟, applicable to any method
to reach any goal one undertakes. In a religious sense „waseelah‟ pertains to „actions whereby
Allaah‟s closeness is attained‟, in junction with Allaah‟s command: O ye who believe! Do your
duty to Allah, seek unto Him the means of approach (waseelah), and strive with might
and main in his cause: that ye may prosper. [Al-Qur'an, 5:35] Here jihad, one of the most
beloved acts in Allaah‟s Sight, is described as tawassul. In a narration from the Companion Abu
Huraira[ra], the Prophet Muhammad[s]: “Allaah said:„I shall declare war against him who
shows hostility to a pious worshipper of Mine. And the most beloved things with which
My slave comes nearer to Me, is what I have enjoined upon him; and My slave keeps
on coming closer to Me through performing Nawafil (non-obligatory acts) till I Love
him, so I become his sense of hearing with which he hears, and his sense of sight with
which he sees, and his hand with which he grips, and his leg with which he walks; and
if he asks Me, I will give him, and if he asks My protection, I will protect him; and I do
not hesitate to do anything as I hesitate to take the soul of the believer, for he hates
death, and I hate to disappoint him‟.” [Sahih Bukhari, 8/76/509] Hence the means of
approach towards Allaah‟s wilaya (closeness) are those which He Himself chooses for His servant,
such as jihad or salaah. Salaah for instance is un-acceptable unless confined to Prophetic
methodology (Sunnah). With this regard, the Prophet Muhammad[s] as the Seal of Prophet-hood
is also last and final waseelah by way of one reaches Allaah, the Almighty. No doubt the belief in
Prophet Muhammad[s] as intermediary between Allaah and His servant in religious matters serves
as in-dispensable element of faith. Mediation is not supplicating his noble being[s], nor beseeching
in his[s] name: rather to acknowledge his[s] methodology and guidance as the only path by which
Allaah‟s pleasure is achieved. Ahlu‟l-Kitaab, the Hindus and Zoroastrians all worship God in
manner of self-choosing but deny or neglect the manner exercised and ordained by the Seal of
Prophets, consequently their deeds are rendered meaningless, no longer desirable unto Allaah,
since their actions do not concord the conduct Allaah loves and revealed on His Messenger[s].
Hence waseelah is to perform rituals and abide by the Prophet‟[s] teachings making him[s] a
central figure (qutb) in dos and don'ts of our daily life, culminating in descend of Allaah‟s mercy.
This is the true meaning of tawassul by means of Prophet‟s being[s].
Those who advocate folly enforcing people the taking of waseelah by means of holy-men using self-
invented and spurious stories like the lie attributed to al-Junayd[r] wherein he is portrayed
advocating wali-entreaty: “O Headless one! You have not reached Junayd, assume ye attain
Allah?!” Those who have the fortitude to label Allaah aimed invokes „satanic whispers‟ are the real
revilers of Allaah and His Messenger[s]. Their purpose underlying obvious blasphemes, hidden
beneath adorned garb of „ishq-e-Rasool‟, is manipulation of mass opinion, subjugation of people to
the creation and control over their finances. Shirk has always meant good income, in fact primary
source thereof in most places and almost all times, including today. Allaah‟s statement implies
thus: And they have taken (for worship) gods other than Allah, to give them (worldly)
power and glory! [Al-Qur'an, 19:81] Aside gaining religious benefit or attempt thereof, this
group of people has political and monetary motives. By portrayal of self-alliance with saints and
prophets, they plan to undermine the general public by delineating their superiority and
monopolize wealth by endorsing enslavement (‫)مري ذى‬, mainly managed by relating wild, at times
ludicrous legends to sheepish listeners. Shrines are built for same purpose and the devout urged
the seek blessing thereby. Shirk is sold wholesale in shape of amulets, souvenirs, kalavas, vows &
offerings, even „heavenly gates‟, synonym with gates of Jannah, are prepared with tickets on sale
for anyone wishing to „pass-through into„paradise‟! All designed to fill pockets of the enthroned
‫ سجادہ ن ش ين‬and rob mindless hoi polloi of their wealth and power. To take away their personal
liberty and free-will meanwhile enforcing subjugation to mort elements of nature in same vain as
leaders of pre-Islaamic Arabian who made people not only slaves unto themselves but inanimate
objects so to entirely remove any thought of liberty that might scare caste rule and kingdom.
Islaam came to free mankind from exact type of slavery and turn humans to their natural initial
state (al-Fitrah) of freewill and serfdom only to their Lord Allaah Ta`aala. Turning man‟s objective
from transitory worldly life towards the realm of persistence and ever-lasting abode. Discipleship
(‫ )مري ذى‬composed of un-checked bigotry of the Pirs (Spiritual Guru) varies from this natural
inclination turning man from true reliance (tawakkul) of the Ever-Living, self-Subsistent,
