ASNT SNT-TC-1A 2016

Recommended Practice No. SNT-TC-1A provides guidelines for employers to establish in-house certification programs for the
qualification and certification of nondestructive testing personnel. Since 1966, employers have used this industry-valued document
as the general framework for their NDT certification programs.

ANSI/ASNT CP-189-2016
Is an ANSI standard that establishes the minimum requirements for the qualification and certification of nondestructive testing
(NDT) and predictive maintenance (PdM) personnel, including the minimum training, education, and experience requirements, as
well as criteria for documenting qualifications and certification. This standard also requires the employer to establish a procedure for
the certification of NDT personnel and that the employer incorporate any unique or additional requirements in the certification
procedure.

ANSI/ASNT CP-105 2016

The newly approved ANSI Standard, ANSI/ASNT CP-105: Training Outlines for Qualification of Nondestructive Personnel replaces
“Recommended Training Course Outlines” in early editions of Recommended Practice No. SNT-TC-1A: Personnel Qualification and
Certification in Nondestructive Testing (2001 and earlier editions) and is included with the Recommended Practice No. SNT-TC-1A
(Items 2070, 2071).

The ANSI/ASNT CP-106 2018

Nondestructive Testing – Qualification and Certification of Personnel, document is a modified adoption of ISO 9712, Nondestructive
testing – Qualification and certification of personnel, with modifications made in accordance with ISO/IEC Guide 21, Adoption of
International Standards as regional or national standards. The document is formatted in the style of ISO 9712, and the rationale for
each national modification is located in an outlined text box titled “national explanatory note” directly after the clause, figure, or
table that was modified. Prepared by ASNT, this document was approved by the ASNT Standards Development Committee, a
consensus body organized in accordance with the requirements of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) for Standards
Developing Organizations. The purpose of developing this document was to provide the United States with an American National
Standard that would incorporate the provisions of ISO 9712 while recognizing the current national preferences for certification on
nondestructive testing personnel. The 2018 edition features content updates throughout, including three new appendices, on
Structured credit system for Level III recertification, Grading practical examination, and Engineering of NDT.

NAS410 4th Edition 2014

PURPOSE: This standard establishes the minimum requirements for the qualification and certification of personnel performing
nondestructive testing (NDT), nondestructive inspection (NDI), or nondestructive evaluation (NDE) in the aerospace manufacturing,
service, maintenance and overhaul industries. For the purposes of this standard, the term NDT will be used and will be considered
equivalent to NDI and NDE. In Europe, the term "approval" is used to denote a written statement by an employer that an individual
has met specific requirements and has operating approval. Certification per EN ISO/CEI 17024 is required by this standard when
specified by local or regulatory requirements. The term "certification" as defined in 3.1 is used throughout this standard as a
substitute for the term "approval". Except when otherwise specified in the written practice, certification in accordance with this
standard includes operating approval.

APPLICABILITY: This standard applies to personnel using NDT methods to test and/or accept materials, products, components,
assemblies or sub-assemblies. This standard also applies to personnel: directly responsible for the technical adequacy of the NDT
methods used, who approve NDT procedures and/or work instructions, who audit NDT facilities, or who provide technical NDT
support or training. This standard does not apply to individuals who only have administrative or supervisory authority over NDT
personnel or to research personnel developing NDT technology for subsequent implementation and approval by a certified Level 3.
Personnel performing specialized inspections using certain direct readout instruments as determined by a Level 3 certified in the
method, do not require qualification or certification to this standard.
