Chapter 11 BOILER CIRCULATION PUMP and COOLING SYSTEM

Boiler circulation pump is a key support equipment of boiler, so there should be a rigid set of technical
management requirements for its manufacture, installation, operation and maintenance. The manufacture provides
a complete and detailed instruction with the pump, including:

⑥Operation ⑦Corrective maintenance ⑧Instruction of special tool for kingbolt fastening
The cooling system of circulating pump is the indispensable part for safe operation, for which SBWL prepares a
instruction. The construction company should pay special attention to the installation quality of cooling system.

cooling system pipeline arrangement drawing 820918-D1-08. Installation requirement of circulating

pump and cooling system is supplemented as followed besides previous specification and drawings.

1. Before the installation of circulating pump, the construction company should carefully read the instructions,
documents and drawings. Unpacking the equipments and acceptance check can be carried out after clearly
knowing the requirements. When carrying out acceptance check, representative of SBWL should be present.
The client can also invite the representative from pump supplier if necessary.
2. The circulating pump is to be delivered to site as two parts: pump case and motor. The auxiliaries, such as
high pressure cooler, filter, connecting pipe and instruments should be separately packed. Generally, there are
anti-frost and antirust fluid filled in the motor and motor cooler. The opening of equipment connecting pipes
is sealed with closure plate flange or head and the sealing surfaces are protected with inhibitory coating or
shutter.
3. All the equipments of circulation pump should be stored indoorly at site (with original package). If the
temperature is lower than -6℃, heating measures should be considered.
4. The inlet end of pump case is connected with downcomer, while outlet end welded with outlet valve of
circulation pump. The pump case and outlet valve should be integrity for overall hydraulic test, in which the
motor of circulating pump must not be installed. The end closure of circulation pump is supplied by
SBWL.The major opening of pump case should be sealed with kingbolt, mother nut and metal plumbago
wound gasket. Caution: The installation of kingbolt must be operated according to the instruction of pump
supplier. The metal plumbago wound gasket is for one-time use and should be renewed after the motor and
pump case is connected.
5. The lifting of pump motor should wait until the site condition meet the requirements in instruction. Inform the
representative of pump supplier in advance and carry out the original measurement record required in
instruction. The representative of pump supplier should be present when the circulating pump is under
cold-run trial commissioning.
6. The cooling system of circulation pump consists of two parts: high-pressure side and low pressure side. The
high-pressure side is supplied by SBWL, while the low pressure side is supplied by design institute. The high
pressure cooling circuit connected with pump should be cleaned before installation. Acid wash is
recommonded.
