ABSTRACT

A development of an eco-friendly that repels in water from wax particle coating

suitable for wood cellulose fibres that also retains the breathability and natural feel of

the textile. The researchers compared the breathability of textiles treated with natural

wax with textiles that had been treated with commercial products. In tests, the

researchers found that by dipping it, it is suitable for small items of clothing. Thus,

spraying or brushing works best for large ones. In the procedure, the wax is thawed and

decomposed in water into wax particles that are anionic, like the cellulose. For the wax

particles to adhere well to the cellulose surface, a cationic substance is needed as a

buffer, since the oppositely charged particles attract one another. The effect of the

drying temperature after wax treatment on water repelling was also observed, and it

was concluded that it is preferred water resistance when the drying temperature is lower

than the melting temperature of the wax.

THE PROBLEM

The major problem is clearly stated. It is clearly stated because as stated in the

research title, “green water repellent.” The major problem in this research is the

hydrophobicity can be permanent or temporary. Some of the minor problems are it has

a component that is harmful effects to the environment. A chemical composition does

not breakdown. It is somewhat hard to collect it is need to beat and dislodge. It is

insoluble in water and the melt dispersion techniques.

The problem is actually important because it is the problem that the research

topic wants to solve. Hydrophobicity is practically important because it is the main

component to prove if it is water repellant. The minor problems is not so important but

still it is a need.

The purpose of the study is the textile should repel in water. This research wants to be

purposive so that the clothing can serve as a protection for all unwanted liquids. The

hypothesis is a green alternative to C8 fluorochemical compound such as carnauba wax

can be water repellant in finishing textiles. The key terms are not defined but some of

the terms are described in the context/text.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

The cited sources are pertinent to the study because they created strong

evidences about it. All of the sources are relevant because every statements have

supporting statements. The review is too narrow because the researchers put some

unnecessary words but helpful for the study.

The references are not that recent because they cited a source that is 1998 and

the most recent one is 2014. It is mostly bias because the study is way too good for a

research; though there are some negative sources but it doesn’t really balance the bias

of the study.

DESIGN AND PROCEDURES

DATA ANALYSIS AND PRESENTATION

CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATION

The conclusion of the study is connected to the purpose. It discusses about

proving that it is water repellant to the textile. It test about the hydrophobicity of the wax

and was proved but discusses some implications. The researchers mentions about the

testing of air-permeability with the deposition of SCNs bilayers. The result of the test is it

doesn’t block all the pores of the fabric and they’re open to new approach to water repel

but with green ingredients and eco-friendly process.

In this study, will affect the person who wear conventional outfit, work wear and

most importantly military officials. This will help them to repel with liquids and make

them light weight when raining. As said a while ago, the recommendation is the

researchers are open to new approach to repel in water textiles with green ingredients

and eco-friendly process.
