NGO Activities
The world is a two-sided coin which has people blessed with all comforts of life,
family on the one side and numerous orphanages, old age homes and homes for CP children
on the other side. Our magnanimous Managing Director is passionate about extending a
supporting hand to these needy people. Also, he wanted to invoke the service mind of our
students by encouraging visits to orphanages, old age homes and homes for CP children.
About 60 orphanages, 15 old age homes and 5 homes for CP children have been visited this
semester. NGO activities serve the dual purpose of bringing out the hitherto concealed
concern of young minds to serve the needy people and ultimately make responsible citizens
of them, and making them realize how much a comfortable life they have been blessed with.
21
It is our missionary Managing Director’s dream that every Josephite must be a
compassionate citizen. In order to accomplish this, our Managing Director has introduced a
unique programme termed as NGO Visit for the students. Students are provided with
transport facilities to visit the NGO homes on activity Saturdays. Our college offers special
lunch (Both Vegetarian and Non Vegetarian with sweets, savories and ice creams) to all the
inmates of orphanages, old age homes and homes for CP children. All the students
enthusiastically participated and mingled with inmates of home and spent the daytime with
them and shared their happiness. They also spent their pocket money in useful manner by
offering the needy things like rice and other groceries, stationary articles, toys, clothes,
pillows etc. for the inmates.
The following are the visits arranged by the Department of Electrical and Electronics
Engineering students during June 2015-March 2016.

At the end of each visit, the students’ eyes were filled with tears due to emotions.
They were thankful to God and they counted the blessings showered on them. Students were
also inspired by the knowledge the children shared during the visit, their experience. It makes

Club Activities
Knowledge is to the mind, what food is to the soul. 'To strive, to seek, to find and not
to yield'. Amidst the hustle and bustle of our daily college routine-classes, exams and
assignments a feast to the mind can really rejunuvate weary students. That's the objective of
club activities in our esteemed institution St.Joseph’s institute of technology. Different clubs
like math’s club, English club, Quiz club and Tamil club were initiated and given life by our
beloved Managing Director Dr.B.BabuManoharan in the year 2011.
MATHS CLUB
The aim of this club is to motivate and to nurture the interested students to excel in
the field of Mathematics and its application. The club conducts various seminars and w
Workshops to stimulate the awareness and interest in the field of Mathematics. It also
opens opportunities for other colleges; JMC organizes a national level mathematical
symposium MATHIESTA every year. The student coordinators of JMC conduct various
events such as Mathematical Quiz, Dumb-C, Crossword, Adzap and Olympiad under the
guidance of the staff members. The Mathematics club also conducts various competitions
among the Mathematics club members and is performing dual role by inculcating arithmetic
ability as well as logical thinking among the club members. Events like Adzap, Dumb-C will
33
widen the creative thinking of the students. The senior students share their experience in
facing the different competitions conducted by various colleges and universities in India. The

The quiz club comprises of student members and faculty advisors. The quiz
club serves as a touchstone to sharpen young minds by conducting periodical quiz programs
during a semester and nurtures leadership and event management skills in the senior students
by encouraging them to organize quiz programs for the members of the club. It is a student
run club with the senior student members taking turns in being quiz masters in the different
quiz programs conducted by the club. The quiz masters use their creativity and skill in
planning the rounds for the quiz programs.
The different quiz programs hone the young minds and make them technically sound
and competent. The quiz club members participate in various quiz competitions held all over
Tamil Nadu. “There are three principal means of acquiring knowledge…observation of
nature, reflection and experimentation. Observation collects facts; reflection combines them;
35
experimentation verifies the result of that combination.” In short our quiz club inspires and
kindles students to observe, reflect and experiment.
Students are encouraged and motivated to join in various club activities. As a token of
appreciation, Cash prizes are awarded and merit certificates are issued for the winners of the
