Figure 2. Initial Preparation to Set the Turtle Deck Aft

2.1 At the aft end of the Turtle Deck, Fiberglass (#5340-009), find the centerline of the flat portion that will need to be cut away to
fit over the Boom Tube (#5310-012). Make a mark at 2-1/2” up from the bottom edge of the flat aft end on the centerline
mark. Draw a 5-1/2” radius on the back flat section that passes through the 2-1/2” mark.
2.2 Cut out the radius drawn on the fiberglass. Clean up the fiberglass opening with a file.
2.3 Pick up the Turtle Deck, Fiberglass (#5340-009) and slide the forward opening over the Root Support Forward (#5320-002).
The bottom forward edges of the Turtle Deck should sit on the forward side of the Bulkhead Angle, 3-3/8” (#5420-003)
mounted to the Bulkhead Cross Tube, Upper (#5310-002) at each end.
2.4 Push the aft end of the Turtle Deck, Fiberglass (5340-009) down over the foam rubber on the Boom Tube (#5310-012) and
fit the sides into the flanges of the Hull and check for fit. Adjust the cutout as necessary to fit properly around the Boom Tube
and to sit into the Hull flange. Clean up the fiberglass opening with a file.

Note: Remove the Bolt AN4-20A from the top of the Boom Tube Cluster Bracket.

3.1 At the mid portion of the Turtle Deck, Fiberglass (5340-009), find the aft end of the 2” wide ridge that runs down the center of
the Turtle Deck. Make a mark where the ridge stops on the main turtle deck surface to allow where the Boom Tube Cluster
Bracket (#5310-011) will penetrate the Turtle Deck. At the aft end of the ridge make a mark 4-3/4” back by 1-3/4” wide. Drill
a 3/4” pilot/inspection hole in the center of the marked location to verify the area to be cut out is accurately located.
3.2 Cut out the final marks drawn on the fiberglass. Clean up the fiberglass opening with a file.
3.3 At the aft end of the cutout just made, there will need to be more of the fiberglass removed for the Root Support, Aft (#5320-
003) when it mounts to the Boom Tube Cluster Bracket (#5310-011). Put the Root Support, Aft into its bolted-in position and
use a marker to trace the area where the Root Support will need to go through the fiberglass.
3.4 Cut out the final marks drawn on the fiberglass. Clean up the fiberglass opening with a file.

(#5430-002) to flex when the Boom Tube flexes.
40.3 Install Rivet SBL44 (#SL-44) in the holes previously drilled.
40.4 On both sides of the Boom Tube Covers, place an Elevator Control Stop (#5430-003) plate over the Elevator Reversing Horn.
40.5 In the cockpit, move a control stick forward until it stops. In that position, move the Elevator Control Stop plate into position where the
Elevator Reversing Horn is against the forward edge of the plate’s slot. Assure that the Elevator Reversing Horn moves through the
center of the slot in the Elevator Control Stop plate. Mark the position of the plate on the boom tube cover.
40.6 With the Elevator Control Stop plates held firmly in position, drill through the plate and through the Boom Tube Covers using a 1/8” drill.
De-burr the holes.
40.7 On each Elevator Control Stop plate, install eight SBL4-4 rivets through the plates and boom tube covers.
