STANDARDS
2.1 The contract drawing and specifications are complementary to each other and
any labor or materials called for by either, whether or not called for by both, if
necessary for the successful operation of any of the particular type of equipment
shall be furnished and installed without additional cost to the Owner.
2.2 All dimensional locations of fixtures, equipment, boxes, outlets, risers and pipes
chase shall be verified on the architectural drawings and manufacturer’s
catalogue.
3. Intent - It is not intended that the drawings shall show every pipe, fitting,
boxes and equipment. All such items whether specifically mentioned or not,
indicated on the drawings, shall be furnished and installed if necessary to
complete the system in accordance with the best practice of the electrical trade
and to the satisfaction of the Architect, the Engineer and the Owner.
5. Shop Drawing – The Contractor shall submit to the Architect and the
Engineer, for approval, four (4) copies of all shop drawings of details and
connections not shown on the drawings or deviations thereof but required for the
dimensions, materials, erection details and that they conform to the intent of the
drawings and specifications.
6. Record Drawings
6.1 The Contractor shall during the progress of work, keep a record of the actual
installation from that shown on the contract drawings.
6.2 Upon completion of work, the Contractor shall submit four (4) copies [one (1) set
original, reproducible and three (3) sets of prints] and one (1) electronic file of the
as-built drawings indicating the work as actually and finally installed.
8. Permits – The Contractor shall be responsible for securing all the required
construction and operation permits and pay all the necessary fees thereof.
Copies of all the permits, together with certificate of inspections shall be
submitted to the Owner.
11.1 The Contractor shall be fully responsible in coordinating with the utility company
with regard to all utilities requirement of the project, including but not limited to
power and telephone systems.
11.2 The Contractor shall prepare all drawings required by the utility company, sign
and seal all documents that are required for the application of the said utilities.
l. MATERIALS
4.1 Conduit shall be hot-dip galvanized mild steel pipe in 3.0 M length UL
listed. Fittings shall be threaded type.
5.1 Conduit shall be polyvinyl chloride (PVC), schedule 40, 3.0 M lengths,,
Fittings shall be slip-on type with threaded end adapter.
5.2 Application - Telephone, Music and Paging Systems.
6. Flexible Conduit
7.1 Wires and cables shall be soft drawn and annealed copper.
7.2 Wires cables shall be plastic insulated for 600 V, THHN Phelps dodge or
Philflex approved equal.
8.1 Outlet boxes and covers shall be cast hotodip galvanized steel deep type.
8.2 Thickness of the outlet goes and covers shall be code gage and no
less than gage # 16. Boxes shall be deep type unless otherwise noted.
9. Switches
9.1 Switches shall be flush mounted and rated 15 Amp. 250 V, one
way, three way as required. Brand: Panasonic or Toshiba, Mitsubishi
9.2 Switches shall be quiet type, spring loaded and the cover plates
shall be subject to the approval of the Architect and the Engineer.
9.3 For National Switches refer to its product catalog for Specifications.
10. Receptacles
10.2 Receptacles for ranges, air conditioning units and other special
outlets shall be rated at the required capacity if the equipment.
10.3 Cover plates shall be subject to the approval of the Architect and
the Engineer.
10.4 Weatherproof receptacles shall have gasket cap over each
receptacle opening.
11.1 Panels and cabinets shall be dead front construction either flush or
surface mounted. Enclosure shall be baked enamel-finish NEMA standard
as applicable.
11.2 Panels and cabinets shall be code gage and no less than gage #
14. It shall have no dimension greater than 600 mm and no surface are

11.4 Panel boards bus bar shall be designed so that breaker can be
changed without machining, drilling or tapping. Bus bar shall be
independently supported.
12.1 Circuit breakers shall be thermal magnetic type with quick make,
quick break trip free operating mechanism with contacts.
12.2 Circuit breaker shall be molded case complying with NEMA and UL
standards.
12.3 The thermal magnetic trip unit shall provide time-delayed for
overload protection and instantaneous for short circuit protection.
lll. DEVICES
1. Quality Assurance – All devices to be used shall be new and shall be
conform to the reference codes and standards. The manufacturer shall provide
representatives for start-up supervision.
3.1 Fire detection and alarm system shall be closed circuit doubly supervised,
pre-signal and general alarm, non-coded, one annunciation, fire detection and
alarm system.
3.2 The system shall consist of manual break-glass stations, smoke and heat
detectors, signal bells and control panel. Devices shall be UL listed.
3.3 The manual break-glass station shall be the pre-design type, semi-flush
type, with key operated manual switch for general alarm.
3.4 The smoke detector shall be photoelectric type operates on 24 VDC with
2-wire base and LED light. Supervision current shall be 100 mill amperes
maximum.
3.5 The heat detector shall be combination fixed temperature and rate of rise
o
of 8 C / minute. It shall have 2-wire base and LED light.
3.6 The signal bell shall be vibrating type. 150 mm ø, designed for surface
mounting installation with output of 90 DB at 3.0 M and operate at 24 VDC.
3.8 The annunciator panel shall duplicate all audio / visual indicator of the
control panel without the control function.
4. Lighting Fixtures
4.1 Fluorescent fixture shall be equipped with HPF or normal power factor, thermal
protected ballast, spring loaded lamp holder, and standard white lamp. Fixture
housing shall be baked enamel, white interior, gage # 22 minimum galvanized
steel unless otherwise noted.
4.2 The Contractor shall submit samples of other type of lighting fixtures for the
approval of the Architect and the Engineer.
5.1 The shall be made of welded rectangular tubing 37 mm high by 70 mm wide with
rounded corners. The duct shall be zinc coated on the outside with an organic
coating protection on the inside. Each length of duct shall be 3 M long with
factory installed inserts spaced at .60 M. O.C. The inserts shall be capped to
prevent the entrance of moisture. Insert shall be threaded with a standard 40 mm
pipe thread. The duct shall be mounted on the duct supports on approximately
1.5 M centers and shall be securely fastened to the concrete slab arc or form.
5.2 He junction boxes shall be made of ferrous metal. Boxes shall be adjusted to
floor level by leveling screws. Conduit feeds shall be made through the corner of
the box and proper reducer or enlarge shall be used to accommodate the
specified conduit size.
5.3 A floor covering adapter of the proper type shall be furnished for each junction
box. For floor covering such as linoleum, vinyl, rubber or similar files, a pan type
tile holder of the specified depth shall be installed.
5.4 Markers used to identify the various systems shall be furnished on all end
enclosure and marker screw shall be furnished with all floor covering assemblies.
5.5 Outlet assembles shall be made of satin finished cost aluminum or as required by
the Architect and shall have an opening in the bottom capable of accommodating
one inch (1”) conduit.
6. Intercom System
6.1 The intercom system shall be on all master with complete privacy system as
shown on the plans. The system shall operate on 24 VDC from an incoming AC
power rated at 230 V, single phase.
6.2 The units shall be suitable either for desk top or wall mounting. Sector buttons for
stations shall be momentary push-button switches. Each intercom cables with no
less than 0.8 mm solid. The system shall be wired without need of a central
terminal board.
6.4 Dry cell batteries shall be provided for backup power for 72 hours.
IV. INSTALLATION
1. Workmanship
1.1 The work throughout shall be executed in the best and most through
manner to the satisfaction of the Architect and the Engineer, who will jointly
interpret the meaning of the drawings and specifications and shall have power to
reject any work and materials which in their judgement, are not in full accordance
therewith.
1.2 The contractor shall assume unit responsibility and shall provide the
services of a qualified engineer to supervise the complete installation of
equipment and systems and who shall be available for conducting the final
acceptance tests.
2. Conduit System
2.1 Conduit shall have no more than four (4) 90 o bends in any run.
When it becomes necessary to have more than four (4) 90 o bends, an
intermediate pull box shall be installed to facilitate pulling-in of wires and
cables.
2.2 All conduit runs shall be called for on the drawings. Conduits shall be
installed in such a manner as not to weaken or interfere with the structure
of the building. No parallel runs of embedded conduits shall be permitted
along solid walls and partitions. Conduits below grade shall be encased in
concrete envelope with minimum thickness of 50 mm or embedded in floor
slab.
2.3 Exposed conduits shall be run parallel to or perpendicular with the lines of
the building and shall be securely fastened in place by means of approved
supports and fastening.
2.4 Conduit supports shall be fastened to the wall by means of screws or bolts
with expansion shields. The use of wooden or lead plug is not permitted.
Conduits shall be cut by hack saw. All ends should be reamed after
threading and before installing. All ends shall be firmly attached to
cabinets or boxes by means of locknuts and bushings. Field bends shall
not be allowed for intermediate metallic conduit larger than 20 mm trade
size except by hydraulic bender.
2.5 Conduits not embedded in concrete shall be firmly supported and fastened
in place every 3.0 M and within 0.90 M of each outlet box or cabinet.
3.1 No wires shall be drawn into the raceway until works which may cause
injury to the wires are completed. Only powdered lubricants not injurious to cable
insulation and raceway shall be used and only when lubricants is necessary. All
wires and cables shall be continuous from junction to junction as may be
necessary.
3.3 Branch circuit splices shall be soldered or joined by the use of insulated
splicing device (wire nut). All soldered joints shall be made mechanically strong
before soldering and shall be carefully soldered without the use of acid then
taped with rubber tape to a thickness equal to that of the insulation and covered
with two layers of friction tape. Plastic tape may be used in lieu of rubber and
friction tapes. Unless otherwise indicated on the drawings, specified number of
conductors constituting a single circuit branch shall be connected directly to
devices without the use of plugs, such as occurs at lighting switches and plug
receptacles, the wires shall be formed into clockwise loop to fit around the
screws.
3.4 Minimum wire size for power distribution shall be 35 mm 2 and 2.0 mm2 for
control and other signal system, unless otherwise noted.
4. Service Entrance
4.1 Provisions shall be made for one incoming service from the power
company street primary distribution system up to the main distribution panel of
the building. At the start of the work, the Contractor shall immediately confirm in
writing with the Power Company, the primary service voltage and the location of
the service pole.
4.2 The Contractor shall furnish and install the complete conduit and
accessories for the above primary service at location shown on the plans and as
confirmed by the Power Company.
5.2 Unless otherwise indicated on drawings, all motors shall be furnished, set
up and secured in place by other trades.
5.3 Unless otherwise indicated on drawings, the Contractor shall do all wiring
for power up to equipment controller. Circuit breakers for line protection
shall be included.
5.4 The receptacle power wiring shall be completed in every respect, all as
indicated on the plans or as specified. Mounting height of receptacles shall
be as indicated or as per standard practice.
5.5 All connections to equipment in damp and exposed weather location shall
be made with “sealtite” flexible conduit or approved equal.
6. Lighting System
6.1 The lighting system shall be complete in every respect, all as indicated on
the plans or specification. Mounting height of switches and special fixtures
shall as indicated or as per standard practice.
6.2 All wiring shall be installed, in general, concealed in the structure, except
as noted or as required.
6.3 Lighting circuits shall be balanced at the panels on the 3-phase, 3wire
system.
7. Telephone System
7.1 The telephone system shall consist of service entrance, interior system of
wires and cables, conduits, outlet boxes, faceplates, junction boxes,
terminal strip cabinets, etc., as shown on the plans ready to achieve the
telephone equipment to be furnished and installed by others. The entire
layout shall be installed as indicated and in accordance with the Local
Telephone Company.
7.2 All wiring shall be run through rigid PVC conduit. Cables for telephone
branch circuits shall be # 22 AWG twisted quadruple PVC jacketed with
number of runs as shown on the plans.
7.3 Outlet boxes for telephone instruments shall be of size and shape required
for easy pulling of telephone cables.
8. Grounding System
8.1 At the points indicated on the plans, furnish and install 25 mm x 3.0 M
copper weld ground rods driven to below ground then connect these rods
with a loop of 38 mm2 bare copper cable to the nearest water main pipe or
as shown.
8.3 All metallic conduits, panel boards and equipment requiring ground shall
be properly grounded and bonded by means of copper straps. The
conduits of each system shall be grounded by connecting to the nearest
water pipe or as shown.
8.4 All ground connections shall have clean contact surfaces and shall be
tinned and sweated while bolting. Unless otherwise specified, exposed
ground cables shall be installed in conduit and connections made readily
accessible for inspection. Connections shall not be made underground or
concealed in floors or walls.
9. Testing
9.1 Ground test – The entire installation shall be free from improper grounds
and from short circuits. Each panel shall be tested with mains connected
to the feeder, branches connected and switches closed, all fixtures in
place and permanently connected, lamps removed or omitted from the
sockets and all switches closed. Each individual power equipment
connected to proper and intended operation. In no case shall the
resistance be less than that allowed by the Regulations for Electrical
Equipment of Building. Failures shall be corrected in a manner satisfactory
to the Architect and the Engineer.
9.2 Performance test – The Contractor apply to the power and lighting
installation as we as low voltage and alarm, control, signal and
communication systems. Where sequence operation is required, the
Contractor shall test for proper sequence and leave the entire electrical
installation in satisfactory working condition.
9.3 Phase sequence test – The Contractor shall determine correct rotation of
all motors and phase of the entire power installation before final
connections to the line. A final connection of main feeder buses to the
main circuit breakers of the primary line has been established.
9.4 Insulation test - Perform insulation resistance test on all wall wiring 3.5
mm2 and larger or as instructed using an instrument which applies voltage
of approximately 500V to provide a direct reading of resistance. Minimum
resistance shall be 250,000 .
9.5 Grounding system test – Test the grounding system to assure continuity
and that the resistance to ground is not excessive. Test each ground rod
for resistance to ground before making any connections to the rod , then
tie entire grounding system together and test for resistance to ground.

For uniformity of bids the following brands of materials and equipment are deemed
preferred. Any substitution shall be equal or of better quality and subject to prior
approval of the Architect and Engineer.
