INDIGENOUS PEOPLE AND TRIBES

As of August 2016, India has about 700 tribal groups with a population of 104 million. The most
popular tribe of India is called Bhil, it has a total population of 4.6 million. And the second largest tribe
is Gond with a population of 4.4 million. That's why India has the largest number of indigenous people in
the world after Africa. Tribes of India is called Adivasi it is a given term for scheduled tribes. It means
that it is considered to be original inhabitants of the Indian subcontinent in any of the various ethnic
groups.

HISTORY

RELIGION

A country wouldn't be a country without a religion. Their religion is characterized through


religious beliefs and practices. India has four, namely Sikhism, Jainism, Hinduism, and Buddhism.
Religion is a very important part of India's culture. Indian people cherish and give importance to their
religions. Diversity of religious practices and beliefs is observed in India due to the presence of different
religions most likely the four major religions (Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism). Islam is the
second-largest religion in India making it the largest Muslim population country. With the influence of
different religions to the people, it only shows that for them, faith is an important thing.

CUSTOMS, CULTURE AND TRADITION

It's culture is amongst the world's oldest, it is the second most populous country with also the
most populous democracy in the world. They made significant advances in architecture (Taj Mahal),
mathematics (The invention of Zero) and medicine (Ayuverda). But western societies somehow did not
always see the culture of India very favorably according to some anthropologists. However, with the use
of elements of India's diverse culture, such as Indian religions, philosophy, cuisine, language, dance,
music and movies it made a profound impact across the Indosphere, Greater India and also to the world.

VILLAGES

The villages in India are attractive and beautiful. Their lifestyle is simple with peaceful and clean
place. The open area of the villages is surrounded by plants and trees. Their houses are built of bamboos
and painted with a mixture of dirt and grass. Their villages are considered as an Eco-friendly in nature
because of the green leafy plants and trees that gives the people a fresh air to breathe.

LIVELIHOOD

Group of villagers working together to cultivate their land as a source of living. To secure their
basic necessities, Indians engage themselves in activities in the fields as it says that agriculture is the
largest source of livelihood in the country. But many are still unable to make money out of their land
due to their small landholdings so they need to depend on other sources like a dairy or a poultry
business.
