You are going to see images of five cities and their landmarks. Write a
paragraph describing each city and country it belongs and the landmark shown.
Use the vocabulary from the box for the descriptions. The first one is done for

New York is a big city in the


United States (North
America). It takes thousand of
visitors every year. The city
has a population of around 8
million people. There is a lot
to see and do in New York.
You can visit the Central Park,
the Metropolian museum and
Time’s Square. In the picture
you can see the Statue of
Liberty, a monumet built
between 1875 and 1986. It is
New York (USA) – The Statue of Liberty 93 meters tall. The statue is
located on Liberty Island in
the Hudson River.

As soon as Alexander VII was elected


as the new pope in April 1655 , sculptor
and architect Gian Lorenzo Bernini was
commissioned to create a new square
in front of the Basilica of San Pedro .
Following the detailed instructions of
Alexander, Bernini came a cathedral
elliptical , 240 meters wide and 196
meters long ( 787 x 643 feet). a
structure of the square began in 1656
and was completed eleven years later ,
in 1667

Rome (Italy) – Saint Peter’s Square


Sydney Opera House is the most
recognizable building in Australia and is
an icon of creative and technical
achievement of Australia . Since its
completion in 1973 has attracted
worldwide acclaim for its design and
construction , reinforced by its location
on Bennelong Point in an environment
excellent harbor . The design of the
building, with its candles shaped white
roof deck rise above a massive red
granite platform , facing a beautiful
bridge passing through a river has
been internationally recognized as an
icon of 20th century architecture . As
Sydney (Australia) – The Sydney Opera sculptural modern buildings that can be
seen and experienced by all sides , it is

Edinburgh Castle is an ancient fortress
built on a volcanic mantañade located
in the city center of Edinburgh. It was
kind used for military purposes since
the twelfth century , it is intended for
civilian use only until very recent times .
It is located at the top of the street or
main street , also known as the Royal
Mile or Royal Mile. Holyrood Palace ,
Holyrood Palace , lies at his feet. The
castle is open to the public, and is

visited tourist attraction in Scotland.

Edinburgh (Scotland) – Edinburgh Castle


Described as both a ‘Vertical City’ and
‘A Living Wonder,’ Burj Khalifa,
developed by Dubai-based Emaar
Properties PJSC, is the world’s tallest
building.

Rising gracefully from the desert, Burj


Khalifa honors the city with its
extraordinary union of art, engineering
and meticulous craftsmanship.

At 828 meters (2,716.5 ft), the 200-


storey Burj Khalifa has over 160
habitable stories, the most of any
building in the world. The tower was

coincide with the fourth anniversary of
Khalifa the Accession Day of His Highness
Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al
Maktoum as the Ruler of Dubai.

Arguably the world’s most prestigious


address, Burj Khalifa is responsible for
a number of world-firsts. The tower
became the world’s tallest man-made
structure just 1,325 days after
excavation work started in January
2004.
