Letter of Motivation

Specialization in Graduate Program is a very important phase in a student’s life. One’s entire
career is highly influenced by this single decision. In my case the thought process for this
decision was not of a day or two , but of a properly planned and analyzed thinking spread
over the last 4 years, after my graduation, when I started gaining practical knowledge in the
industry. Being a developing country, the country still needs proper guidance and advanced
technologies as well as skilled manpower, even in the chemical engineering field. This has
been a huge motivating factor for me to pursue my graduate studies and provide a helping
hand to the growth of my country.

After more than 3 years of work experience as Production Engineer at Gharda Chemicals
Limited, one of the India's leading agrochemical manufacturing company, I want to return to
academics and undertake Masters studies in Paper Technology at the Munich University of
Applied Sciences. After graduating in July 2013 from Gharda Institute of Technology,
affiliated to Mumbai, I felt I should gain some practical experience working in a
manufacturing environment to gain first-hand knowledge of what the life of a production and
process engineer entails. I have loved every minute of my work, especially the opportunity to
participate in cutting-edge projects and discuss ideas with senior production engineers. I
soon realized that, although I enjoy handling the complex equipment and processing the
results, I am not going to be satisfied with carrying out routine procedures under the direction
of others. I want to be part of the team that directs the course of the project. My senior
colleagues have encouraged my ambition and feel that I have the potential for graduate
studies.

Right from my school days, I have always been fascinated by the mysteries of science. I had
analytical mind and was very strong in mathematics. In my grade 10th examination, I stood
among the top 10% of the students of my school. When I was in my 5th standard my father
bought me book, which mentioned achievements and contributions of some best known
scientists of the world. Since from that day, I had strong inclination towards mathematics and
science which proved decisive in choosing career in Chemical Engineering.

During my undergraduate studies, subjects like Chemical process, Modeling and Simulation,
Chemical Reaction, Advanced Chemistry, Instrumentation, Computer Aided Design,
Equipment Design, Industrial Safety, Heat and Mass Transfer and Environmental
Engineering, Simulations using Aspen and of course Mathematics, were really interesting
for me and the professors also motivated me to complete my Bachelors degree with good
grades.

During my undergraduate studies, I did not confine myself to specific field but frequently took
practical courses such as Computer Programming by using MATLAB, where I learned to
solve problems by writing programs. I had also attended experimental sessions, such as Unit
operations and Process control lab, where I acquired a great deal of laboratory experience. I
did not limit myself to scope of my syllabus but read as much material as I could in the
library. I am regular reader of “Chemical and Engineering News”. This has kept me abreast
with the latest developments and ongoing research in the field of Chemical.

I did various technical paper presentations on different topics like Nanotechnology. Being
emotionally matured confident and good natured with the field I had also presented excellent
and informative seminars on “Solid Waste Management”. I have done my Final Year project
from one of the car washing and servicing centre, project titled “Oil Water Separation for
Prevention of Water Contamination” by using different techniques. In this , we had separated
oil from waste water which was used in car washing servicing centre. We had also
suggested Pollution Control Board to take into consideration the problem of waste water
which is directly thrown to the nearby river without purification. By using our technique, they
can use that recycled water for various purposes such as car washing at very minimum cost.

After completion of my studies in December 2013 I started working as Trainee Engineer in

one of India’s top ranking and largest Agrochemical company Gharda Chemicals limited ,
whose founder is Dr. K.H.Gharda. He did great achievements in chemical industry. I have
completed there my training successfully and since then have became Chemical Production
Officer and job I have been assigned was crucial for the organization, responsible primarily
for process related activities during shift and ensuring that equipment works to its
specification and to appropriate capacities. I have also completed commissioning a new
plant and now working in same plant and also became Shift-in-Charge. I have gained more
than 3 years of experience in Manufacturing and Processing field which boost my practical
knowledge and technical skills in industry. Apart from this, I have participated in many
Safety Competition during Safety week and also active Sport member of my Company.

I was equally competitive when it comes to extra-curricular activities. I won many

Counter-Strike (LAN Gaming) matches which was held in inter colleges. I had participated in
Paper Presentation in National level Tech-Fest “I-CUBE 2013”conducted by our college. My
managerial and interpersonal skills developed me as one of coordinator of Tech-Fest. I have
been selflessly active by volunteering in many inter college events organized by college
itself.

The University that one selects is just as important as the decision to the study further itself.
My decision to Germany as it had great exposure to students, safe for international students
and especially MPE, Offenburg program for my higher education because a degree from this
university recognized worldwide and as a result, international students who study in
Germany enjoy successful and prospectus careers and also this program resembles my
study as well as technical skills that I gained during my work. Studying in your university for
Process Engineering program will give me unique range of experience and expertise and
this will in turn for beneficial in my career.. What attracted me to your university are the
instructional and research facilities. Your university is among the best graduate schools for
Process Engineering in Germany. Going through brochure and details on the web, I realize
that yours is one of the best university with great opportunity to be involved in work and
research for students. An excellent faculty for studies have motivated me to choose your
university for postgraduate studies. If I am given the prestigious opportunity to join your
university, I would like to take optional courses like Nanotechnology, Process design,
Chemical Technology, Environmental Control, Water treatment as these are closely related
to my interests. I seek challenging environment and plethora of resources, which I know you
provide. I am confident that my academic background, combined with my more than 4 years
of practical experience outside classroom, gives me the maturity that I want to succeed as a
ideal overseas student as well as my future career development. After researching quality of
education that is available at your university, and this has been one of major factor which
have motivated me to pursue this program, as opportunities available at your university will
allow my potential to grow multiple bounds.

After completing my Master’s degree, I expect to take couple of years of experience in

Germany and return to my native country. After completing your program I know that I will be
equipped with the tools need to achieve considerable knowledge and make a huge impact in
this field. Chemical engineers with expertise skills are in high demand here.

I would be grateful to you, if I am accorded the opportunity to pursue my Masters study at

your university and looking forward to join your esteemed university.
