STUDENT LEARNING KIT

IN
MATHEMATICS
(Division of Integers)

by:

GERALDINE N. VITO
I. OBJECTIVE
At the end of the lesson, you should be able to:
1. Perform division of integers

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Integers
Subtopic: Division of Integers

Reference: K to 12 Worktext in Math 7

Materials: Pen or Pencil, Paper

III. PROCEDURE

A. ACTIVITY

MATH DILEMMA

How can a person fairly divide 10 apples

among 8 children so that each child has the
same share?

_____ _____ _____ _____ _____ _____ _____ _____ _____

5 4 3 7 4 1 1 9 7

_____ _____ _____ _____ _____

8 2 10 6 7
To solve the dilemma, match the letter in Colum II with the numbers
that corresponds to the numbers in Column I.

Column I Column II

1. (54) ÷ (-3) C. -9
2. (-36) ÷ (-3) P. -18
3. (-16) ÷ (4) E. -12
4. (0) ÷ (7) K. -4
5. (-25) ÷ (-5) A. 0
6. (-81) ÷ (9) M. 5
7. (24) ÷ (-2) L. 25
8. (-8) ÷ (-1) J. 8
9. (-75) ÷ (-3) U. 12
10. (108) ÷ (-2) I. -54

B. DISCUSSION

1. How is the operation of division related to multiplication?

2. Based on the given activity, what have you observed about the sign of
the quotient?
a. of two positive integers
b. of two negative integers
c. of a positive and a negative integer?

3. How do you divide 2 positive or two negative integers?

C. INPUT

When We Divide:

÷ two positives make a positive:

÷ two negatives make a positive:

÷ a negative and a positive

make a negative:

÷ a positive and a negative

make a negative:

If the two integers have

different sign, the sign of the
quotient is always NEGATIVE!

Therefore,

(-9) ÷ 3 = -3 and 9 ÷ (-3) = -3

If the two integers have

same sign, the sign of the
quotient is always
POSITIVE! For examples,

9 ÷ 3 = 3 and (-9) ÷ (-3) = 3

D. DEEPEN

For each of the following, determine if the quotient is positive or

negative.
Draw a if it is POSITIVE and if NEGATIVE.

1. 450 ÷ 9 = 6. 252 ÷ 9 =

2. (−123) ÷ (−3) = 7. (−360) ÷ (−12) =

3. (−64) ÷ (−8) = 8. (−450) ÷ 50 =

4. (−35) ÷ 5 = 9. (−220) ÷ 20 =

5. 130 ÷ (−10) = 10. (−180) ÷ (−90) =

Find the quotient of each of the following. Write the answer on the box.

1. 27 ÷ 3 = 4. (−21) ÷ 3 =

2. 36 ÷ (−4)= 5. 63 ÷ (−9) =

3. (−100) ÷ (−5) = 6. 75 ÷ 15) =

7. (−64) ÷ 8 = 9. 56 ÷ 8 =

8. (−48) ÷ (−6)= 10. (−28) ÷ (−4)=

E. APPLICATION

Solve the following problems.

1) Cris earns P75.00 a day for selling pandesal. At the end of the day, he divides
his earning among himself and his 2 brothers. How much does each one get?

2) Arthur decided to lose extra weight to keep himself healthy. From his 226 lbs
frame, his weight went down to 160 lbs in 6 months. What was his average
decrease in weight per month?

3) A group of 100 students were asked to form a basketball team composed of 5

different students. Each team will compete and the best team will be the
athletes of the school for the Municipal Meet in Rodriguez, Rizal. How many
teams were formed?

4) After joining a group in Zumba for 16 weeks, Dorothy’s weight began to drop
to 128 lbs. What is the average rate of decrease in her weight per week?

5) Tom had 63 mangoes. He divides all mangoes evenly among his 9 friends.
How many mangoes did Tom give to each of his friends?
F. SYNTHESIS
The math teacher was creating a test in her computer late at night. All of a
sudden, she punched the wrong key and all the numbers scrambled. The
divisor, dividends, and quotients were scattered around the page. Can you
help the teacher to put back the division equation to its place? (Note: there
are many possible answers). Write the equations on the space below.

10 100
50 6

2 63
39
3
51 5
25
48
7
17 4 13 9
IV. ASSESSMENT
Modified TRUE OR FALSE: Write TRUE if the given quotient is correct, and
write the CORRECT QUOTIENT if the given answer is wrong.

1. (−45) ÷ 5 = 9 6. (−145) ÷ 5 = (−95)

2. 48 ÷ (−4) = (−6) 7.(−180) ÷ (−30) = 60

3. 54 ÷ 6 = (−9) 8. 120 ÷ (−20) = (−60)

4. (−75) ÷ (−5) = 10 9. (−63) ÷ (−3) = (−7)

5. (80) ÷ (20) = 20 10. 125 ÷ (−5) = (−50)

V. AGREEMENT

The student of grade 7 in San Isidro

National High School have to solve the
puzzle given by their teacher in
Mathematics by completing the three-by
three magic square (that is, the sums of the
numbers in each row, in each column and in
each of the diagonal are the same) using the
numbers -10, -7, -4, -3, 0, 3, 4, 7, 10. What
is the sum of each row, column and diagonal
line?
