REFLECTION

We decided on the unit topic as ‘’Technology’’ because after all we thought, ‘’This lesson is
266’’. While creating content with apps and programs over the internet, why not also discuss
about technology, to which we owe these applications. It is a well-known topic and an
interesting one as well. There is lots of sides to it which we can touch upon in the classroom.
Young students are always into technology and they can use their own lives as an example
while participating to the classroom discussion. Overall, it’s a topic that fits into what we have
learned so far in 266 and a topic that everyone can have something to discuss about which
causes the required prerequisite knowledge to be not a problem.

While trying to decide on what to teach and what our objectives should be, we had a brainstorm
together, which resulted very well. We decided that we should focus on the Content. Each
week, we would talk about technology in different timelines, giving the students a little history
lesson and a lot of general knowledge while also making use of all the grammar tenses.

Analyze Learners: In this step we tried to understand the needs and the current abilities of the
students in order to create a curriculum and an environment. Our students are roughly around
the age of eighteen and they are expected to be B1 level students. Their needs differ from
each other, but they mostly prefer a hands-on approach where students participate in the
classroom. They have access to technological devices such as computers and the internet and
this encouraged us to use visual materials such as presentations and videos.
State Standards and Objectives: Our target audience are 12th grade students and we aim for
them to achieve the proficiency in simple tenses and talk about past, present and the future
fluently when asked.
Select Strategies, Technology, Media, and Materials: As our context is the technology it would
be very inconvenient for us not to talk about technological devices. We will use visuals such
as infographics, videos, presentations to help students who learn better with visual aid and we
will integrate students into the class using interactive platforms.
Utilize Technology, Media, and Materials: We prepared the aforementioned visual aids by
creating a website and embedding a Prezi presentation, Bubbly.com concept map, an
infographic from Piktochart, a video from PowToon and an online survey from Google Forms.
Require Learner Participation: We aim to have class participation by having interesting topics
that children can relate and talk to. This is one of the reasons why we chose technology as our
theme. This way they will talk about their interests and this will help them participate in the
classroom activities. Also, platforms like Google Forms will help the teacher understand the
students' point of view
Evaluate and Revise: We think that evaluation shouldn’t be consistent of an exam at the end
of the semester. We believe that every action in the class taken, whether the student takes
part classroom activities, does his homework or finishes his tasks are the aspects that we
emphasize.
While working on the unit and lesson plans, we mostly worked on Selecting Strategies,
Technology, Media and Materials and Utilizing Technology, Media, and Materials. Since we
had a lot of material to prepare that’s fitting to the classroom topic and student information
level, it was inevitable. After we managed to prepare the materials (Prezi, bubble.us, Google
Docs...), we had to choose activities with which we can make use of the materials. We
consulted to our department lessons in which we learned about teaching methods and
activities and then mixed them with our media and materials.
