Integrated Task

The reading passage proposes three possible benefits of future smart cars, cars that
can virtually drive themselves. The speaker, on the other hand, rejects those three
benefits.

First, the speaker disagrees with the idea that smart cars will prevent a grea number
of accidents as argued by the reading passage. She says that smart cars will still
experience accidents, even the most technological device can fail. Eventually, with
the advent of smart cars, there will be many cars which will make worse. Thu, it is
unlikely for smart cars to save lives and injuries.
Second, the speaker discredits the statement in the reading passage that smart cars
will overcome traffic problems as they can follow each other closely, even at a high
speed. She affirms that the enticing features and conveniences of computer-
controlled cars will make more people to drive as they want to experience in driving
such cars. Instead of decreasing commuting time, smart cars will make make the
commuting time longer. In addition, the number of traffic accidents will increase as
smart cars can move at a higher speed and the number of cars in higways will rise.
Third, the speaker disagrees with the statement that smart cars will reduce the costs
of driving by having less costs on repairs and spareparts. She points out that the
GPS, which is one of the main feature of smart cars, is very expensive in use and
maintenance. She adds that other costs are also associated with these modern cars
such as additional money that has to be spent for the censor. Even the repairs for
smart cars are more expensive than traditional cars given the expense for the
spareparts and repairmen services of smart cars are far more costly than traditional
cars.
Independent Task
I definitely agree that a person should never decide important things alone. When it
comes to a decision, particularly the important matters, it is better to hear other
people's views as they provide opinions from other perspectives. Furthermore, in
some cases, important decisions can directly or indirectly affect other people.

First, when we make decisions, we decide based on our opinions, insights, and
experiences. It is not a big deal for us when we make decisions for commonplaces or
other trivial thing solely based on our views. However, when it comes to important
things or serious problems, it is much wiser for us to hear and consider other people's
opinions, particularly those who have interpersonal relations or blood relations with
us such as best friends and family members. Their views are significant for important
decisions since they know us and want us to get precise decisions. Furthermore,
their perspectives, which are frequently from the different lens, can give us some
alternatives that we may never think before. For example, when we will decide which
univiersities that we are going to attend, they will suggest you some universities that
they think will accept you since they know us personally, including our academic
abilities. They will even consider the location and the culture of the universities that
are suitable to our characters. Even they will suggest us with a list of some reserved
universities in case we do not get the offer from our desired universities.
Secondly, some of our fundamental decisions we can affect other people's lives. In
this case, it is undeniably important for us to hear their opinions. A marriage is a
concrete example for this. Parents, in fact, are the ones who will get direct
consequences with such decision. As parents will have relation with a perspective
spouse as well as his/her families, they definitely have their personal opinions
toward this. It is beyond all question that parents' decisions are very important in
this matter.
All in all, a person should never make an important decision alone because many
important decisions affect other people and others' opinions provide different
perspectives.
