BUILDING SERVICES

Everything inside a building which makes it safe and comfortable to be

in comes under the title of 'Building services'. A building must do what it
was designed to do - not just provide shelter but also be
an environment where people can live, work and achieve.

 Water supply

 Sewerage

 Energy supply - gas , electricity and renewable sources

 Heating and ventilating

 Day lighting and artificial lighting

 Escalators and lifts

 Ventilation and refrigeration

 Communications, telephones and it networks

 Security and alarm systems

 Fire detection and protection

 Air conditioning and refrigeration.

PIPING USED IN SERVICES

Water supply
PPRC (polypropylene random Copolymer)
PPRC polypropylene random Copolymer can provide very high performance even
under high and low temperatures and pressure conditions. Heating and hot water
systems used in fresh water polypropylene random copolymer (pprc) pipes ultra-
high molecular structure due to a high level of use and durability.
JOINTS
CPVC (Chlorinated polyvinyl chloride)
Chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) is a thermoplastic produced by chlorination
of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resin, which is significantly more flexible and can
withstand higher temperatures than standard PVC. Uses include hot and cold
water delivery pipes and industrial liquid handling.

Joints
GI Pipes (Galvanized Iron)
GI Pipes. Galvanized Iron (GI) Pipes are manufactured using mild steel strips of
Low Carbon Steel Coils. ... The GI Pipes are generally used for distribution of
treated or raw water in rural or urban areas. These pipes are cheaper, light weight
and easy to handle.

APPLICATION AREAS:
• Water & sewerage.

• Fire fighting installations.

• Plumbing systems.

ADVANTAGES:-
• Low installation and maintenance cost

• Long life

• Toughness

• Anti-rust pipes

• Useful for large construction projects-durable and large diameter

JOINTS

 Screwed joints
 Grooved Joints
 Welded Joints
 Flanged Joints

Ss pipes (Stainless steel)

Stainless steel is a versatile material comprised of a steel alloy and a small
percentage of chromium—the addition of chromium adds to the material's
corrosion resistance.

ELECTRIC
CONDUIT

The definition of a conduit is something, such as a pipe or tunnel, through which

water or electrical wires or other designated items can pass.
SEWERAGE

A sanitary sewer or foul sewer is an underground pipe or tunnel system for

transporting sewage from houses and commercial buildings (but not storm water)
to treatment facilities or disposal. Sanitary sewers are part of an overall system
called a sewage system or sewerage.

 Concrete pipes
 UPVC pipes ( Unplasticized Polyvinyl Chloride)
 PVC
CONCRETE PIPEs

Steel reinforced concrete pipe (SRCP) has a product life of 100 years or more - one
of the best service lives of any pipe product. It is the low risk choice for specifies
with a long history of reliability, no limits to weather exposure prior to installation
and increasing strength over time. It is easy to join and install, self heals and
performs soundly above or below the water table.

Advantages

• Suitable for conveying all types of water;

• Easy to install and with flexible joints;
• Can withstand backfill pressure, as well as vehicle traffic loads taking place
above it;
• Because of the smooth inner surface, there are small friction losses;
• They are available in different diameters ranging (300-1,500 m for the first
type of pipe; 1,000-4,000 mm for the second type);
• They are water tight and durable, even with cracks in the inner and outer
coating layers
Joints

Lubricant is a special compound

that consists of a soft soap
solution, which facilitates jointing
of the rubber ring joint.

PVC PIPES
These pipes are being used
increasingly these days for supply of cold water in external and internal
plumbing work

ADVANTAGES:-

1. Durable and usable.

2. Corrosion resistant.

3. Insulation.

GAS
GI Pipes (Galvanized Iron)
PE pipes (Polyethylene)

Polyethylene (PE) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) are the plastic pipes most often used for
underground utility construction. ... PE is more flexible than PVC. A primary difference is
the way lengths of pipe are joined together and to other pipe materials.

COPPER PIPES
Copper piping is a tube-like material made from copper, a red-brown metal with the
chemical symbol Cu and atomic number 29. It is used to convey water, gas, oil or other
fluid from one location to another.
ADVANTAGES
• Copper is a naturally corrosion-resistant metal.

• Durable metal (capable of withstanding 1,000 psi of pressure), copper is also

lightweight.

• Easier to extend over long stretches without supports.

Jointing without fittings

Copper tubes can be joined

without using a fitting by
expanding the end of one tube
to form a socket and inserting
the end of another tube of the
same diameter. This is achieved
by using a precision expander.

VFR Variable refrigerant flow

Variable refrigerant flow (VRF), also known as variable refrigerant volume (VRV), is an
HVAC technology invented by Daikin Industries, Ltd. in 1982. Like ductless minisplits,
VRFs use refrigerant as the cooling and heating medium. This refrigerant is conditioned
by a single outdoor condensing unit, and is circulated within the building to multiple
indoor units

FIRE SAFETY
 COPPER PIPES
 PEX PIPES
PEX is a polyethylene material which has undergone a change in molecular
structure using a chemical or a physical process whereby the polymer chains are
chemically linked. Cross linking of polyethylene into PEX for pipes results in improved
properties such as elevated temperature strength and performance, chemical resistance
and resistance to slow crack growth.

CRIMP FITTINGS

PEX crimp fittings are the standard type of fitting used in PEX systems. A large variety of
fittings are available to make PEX-to-PEX connections, as well as transitions to other pipe
materials.

Most crimp fittings are made of brass but poly-alloy crimp fittings are also available
PEX COMPRESSION FITTINGS

Compression fittings for PEX operate in much the same way as compression fittings for
copper or other plastic piping. The fittings consist of three parts: a compression nut, a
compression ring, and a compression insert.

ADVANTAGES

 Flexible for fewer fittings, reduced leak-point liability.

 Resists corrosion, pitting and scaling.
 Retains more heat in hot-water lines.
 Resists condensation on cold-water lines.
 Expands up to 3X its diameter to help resist freeze damage.

DUCT

PVC
Ducts are conduits or passages used in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC)
to deliver and remove air.
