I. TITLE

Smart Classroom: Electronics and Automated devices – A Manipulative Kit for

Learning Electronics and Automated Devices (ICT- Computer System Servicing or
CSS)

II. RATIONALE

The International Journal of Innovations in Engineering and Technology (IJIET) published in

2017 discussed that the application of Internet of things in the modern world is the center of
interest of many researchers and standardization bodies since several years. Internet of things
mainly consists of two parts automations and analysis. Automation is an important topic which is
more and more covered by various actors in the intelligent transportation systems, home
automations and classroom automation field (Sali et. al, 2017). In today’s world schools are
getting more and more exposed to technologies and have started to automate their classrooms to
enhance the quality of educations. Basically, this manipulative would like to bring the benefits of
technology in the classroom, in addition to instant communication, delivery of information, and
entertainment, by making common devices and appliances used in the classroom to be automated
using the internet connection and basic steps in terminating wires, thereby motivating students to
learn more about electronics and the concept of automated devices.

III. OBJECTIVES

This manipulative aims to motivate students and increase their interest in learning
electronics as part of the common competencies required in gaining knowledge and skills in
ICT-Computer Systems Servicing which is about the termination and connection of electrical
wires and electronic circuit. The manipulative could be an initiative for students to understand
how motherboard and other circuit board work in computer, smart devices and other
appliances. It could also spark their interest in learning robotics, basic programming or coding
and electrical related terms.
The following objectives and competencies must be attained:

a. To follow correct sequence of operation in terminating/connecting electrical wiring/

electronic circuits
b. To motivate students in learnig electronics through Automated Classroom Kit/Manipulative
c. To use appropriate range of methods in termination/connection in accordance to

IV. DETAILS OF THE PROJECT

In this kit, students are going to learn how to use Blynk app and NodeMCU
(ESP8266) in order to control lamp(any other school appliances will be just fine),the
combination will be through the internet. The purpose of this manipulative is to show the
simplest solution remotely-controlling your compatible hardware (NodeMCU) over the
Internet and to explore the world of Internet Of Things(IoT). Blynk is a Platform with iOS
and Android apps to control Arduino, Raspberry Pi and the likes over the Internet. It’s a
digital dashboard where you can build a graphic interface for your project by simply
dragging and dropping widgets.
Hardware components:
1. NodeMCU (ESP8266).
2. Relay
3. Lamp
4. Wires
6. 5V Power Supply 1AMP (optionnal but I recommend to use it in order to avoiding the
lack of electric current by supplying 5v to the relay.

Software app: Teacher will show the configuration of the following applications to control
the lamp or other devices
1. Blynk App
2. Arduino IDE
3. Blynk Library for your OS (Windows,Linux,iOS)
4. ESP8266 Board Manager for Arduino IDE

V. SIGNIFICANCE

In today’s classroom, an overwhelming majority of devices and appliances are

operated manually or with preset timers. An alternative to this classical method of control
is through automation. As part of the competency required in the ICT-CSS, students must
learn the basics of electronics and automated devices through terminating and connecting
wires on a circuit board. The initial reaction of students is that these concepts are not
evident if they would not be able to construct simple circuit board and apply it in their
daily lives. With this manipulative, students would experience connecting wires, upload
codes and control devices with their smart phones. The teacher would like students to be
motivated and understand an important use of the internet, coding and circuit boards.
Students must see how these devices and appliances can become controllable from any
point inside and even outside of a classroom. As technology advances and access
increases, smart homes will be a very common sight in the future. Whether it be security,
smart lighting, or temperature control, Artificial intelligence is making home life simpler.
Beyond this, future possibilities for student’s curiosity are endless.
