1. Export

1.1 Human Remains (HUM)

Human remains that are accepted for air transport are handled and stored in accordance
with the applicable regulatory and airline requirements. Human remains must be handled
and treated with utmost care and respect at all times. The family of the deceased may be
extended all possible assistance in smooth processing of the shipment.

1.1.1 Acceptance
 Human corpses may only be accepted for carriage provided they have a confirmed
booking with the respective carrier and are accompanied by the following
documents:
 Death Certificate issued by the appropriate authorities in the country of death. All
laws, ordinances or governmental rules and regulations in the country of departure,
transit and destination regarding carriage of human remains must be complied with.
 Embalming Certificate from the appropriate authority
 Letter from the Embassy / High Commission.
 No objection certificate from the Local Police Station.
 Cancelled Passport

 Hermetically Sealed Coffin: Un-cremated human remains must be contained in a


soldered inner coffin of lead or zinc, which is inside a wooden one to prevent
damage, and covered by canvas so that the nature of contents is not apparent.
 Cremated human remains must be shipped as funeral urns that are efficiently
protected from damage and spillage by cushioning packing. An additional Cremation
Certificate from the crematorium is required.

1.1.2 Security Clearance


 As mandated by the 'Bureau of Civil Aviation' (BCAS) a shipment need to be 100%
screened.
 DCSC screeners certified by BCAS are authorized to undertake the screening activity.
 Following documents required from the agent to proceed with the screening of HUM
o Death Certificate
o Embalming Certificate
o Cancelled Passport
o NOC from local Police Station
o Letter from Embassy
o Security Declaration
o Confirmed ticket of the person escorting the HUM along with contact details.

 On receipt of the above listed documents the HUM to be put through the X-ray
machine for 100% screening.

1.1.3 Storage
 Human remains must at all times be stored and handled in a safe and a respectful
way.
 Post screening, the HUM must be immediately shifted to its designated storage area
in the Export bonded area and should be separated from other cargo.

1.1.4 Unitization
 Human remains must be loaded in separated ULD or on the top of the ULD (in case
space not permits). Loading should be done as per the airlines instructions. No cargo
will be loaded on the side of the coffin.
 Never put cargo on top of the coffin.
 Do not load Human Remains (HUM) with food stuffs and all kinds of live animals in
same ULD
 NOTOC to be prepared and sent to the Load Control Office of Customer Airlines.

2. Import

2.1 Human Remains (HUM)

Human Remains must always be handled and treated with care and respect at all times. The
family of the deceased should be rendered all assistance possible. To accept human
remains, documents required are as follows:

 Death certificate – mentioning cause of Death


 Embalming certificate
 NOC from local police of originating station
 Embassy certificate
 Cancelled passport of the deceased.

All related documents must accompany the shipment in original. Human remains should not
be stored along with normal cargo.

2.1.1 Flight Check


 DCSC shall Identify the HUM cargo on Airline manifest & FFM in advance.
Accordingly, intimation to be sent to Import Segregation team.
 DCSC shall coordinate with the GHA for transport of the HUM from Aircraft to DCSC
warehouse on priority.
 At the time of breakdown, HUM shipments to be given top most priority & unloaded
first from the ULD’s/Bulk Trolley.
 GHA has to collect original document of HUM from Aircraft and handover to DCSC
operation staff.
 Upon receipt of all relevant documents from the flight, DCSC operation staff shall
approach the APHO & Immigration Customs Office at T-3 Terminal Building, for NOC
and clearance with prior approved intimation letter (approved by APHO to confirm
HUM departure at origin).
 HUM to be identified, marked and stored immediately on designated location
defined for HUM.

2.1.2 Examination
Examination to be conducted subject to Custom requirement.

Human Remain to be delivered upon receipt of Gate pass on top priority.
