1. General
This document describes the Structural configuration, Analysis & Design of the Drivers rest
room to be constructed in the proposed 2G Ethanol Bio Refinery Bhatinda.
There are two Drivers rest room: room 01 near Biomass area and cabin 02 near loading area.
The following design calculations is of Drivers rest room 01. It’s a RCC single story structure
with brick masonry walls.

2. Codes, Standards & Specifications:-

Code of practice for design loads (Part 1 to 5) IS 875: Latest

Code of practice for plain & reinforced concrete IS 456: 2000
Criteria for earthquake resistant Design of structures IS 1893 (Part 1 ): 2016

3. Material Properties

Generally the material of construction for the structure shall be Reinforced concrete for sub
and superstructure.
Material Grades:
Reinforcement bars: Fe500, Fe500D
Concrete: M30

4. Staad geometry and sections

Analysis of sub and superstructure has been performed in STAAD Pro.

5. Loading

1. Dead Load:

Self-weight of structure is applied in STAAD with factor of -1.

Below material densities are considered in calculation of dead load.

Table 1: Material / Floor density

Material/Floor Load intensity

Pcc 24.0 kN/m3
Masonry 20.0 kN/m2
Concrete 25.0 kN/m3

Below figure shows calculation of dead load and its application in STAAD.

Dead Load Calculation

Roof slab = 0.15 x 25 = 3.75 kN/m2

Figure 7: STAAD image showing Dead load application

8
Rev: A

Water proofing

Cement screed (50 mm) + Membrane (25mm) = 0.075 x 24 = 1.8 kN/m2

Water proofing Atactic layer = 0.10 kN/m2

Anti-skid tiling terrace 25 mm thk x 22 kN/m3 = 0.55 kN/m2

Total water proofing load = 2.5 kN/m2

Figure 8: STAAD image showing Waterproofing load application

Roof Parapet wall loading = 0.15 X 25 X 0.6 = 2.3 kN/m

Figure 9: STAAD image showing parapet wall load application

Rev: A

Plinth beams

230 thk Wall load = 0.23 X 20 X (3.75 - 0.5) = 15.0 kN/m

10
Rev: A

Plaster load = 0.032 X 20 X 3.75 = 2.4 kN/m

150 thk Wall load = 0.15 X 20 X (3.75 - 0.5) = 9.75 kN/m

11
Rev: A

Chajja load

Chajja slab = 0.125 x 25 = 3.125 kN/m2

Waterproofing = 0. 1 x 24 = 2.4 kN/m2

Total Dead load = 5.4 kN/m2

Live load = 0.75 kN/m2

2. Live Load:

Live load of 1.5 kN/m2 is considered on Roof slab.

False ceiling = 0.75 kN/m2

Rev: A

3. Seismic loads :

Seismic load calculation is shown in below pages.

Equivalent static method as per IS: 1893 – part 1 (2016) shall be used for design.
Z = 0.16
I = 1.0
R=5
Ta = 0.075 H 0.75 (For Rcc building)

Tx = Tz = 0.075 (3.75) 0.75 = 0.202 sec

Seismic co-efficient Ah = Z/2 * I/R * Sa/g
Sa/g = 1.36/T = 6.732
I = Importance factor as per the building requirement
R= Reduction factor as per the building requirement

Sa/g = as per the table provided (For medium stiff soil sites)

6. Load Combinations

The basic combinations are enlisted as below.

ULS combinations are used for design of structural members and SLS combinations are used
for deflection checks of members.

7. Design of members

Design of structural members has been performed using calculations based on analysis
in STAAD by limit state method as per IS code for factored load combinations by assigning
appropriate design parameters to the members in STAAD. Output of design of structural
members is done using excel sheet shown below.
