IMPORANT QUESTIONS FOR CBSE-2019

UNIT-1
ELECTROSTATICS
1. The given graph shows the variation of charge q versus potential difference V for two
capacitors C1 and C2. Both the capacitors have same plate separation but plate area of C2
is greater than that C. Which line (A or B) corresponds to C1 and why?

2. Define dipole moment of an electric dipole. Is it a scalar quantity or a vector quantity?

3. Draw a plot showing the variation of electric field (E) with distance r due to a point
charge Q.
4. Deduce the expression for the torque acting on a dipole of dipole moment p in the
presence of a uniform electric field E.
5. Deduce the expression for the electric field intensity due to electric dipole in (a) Axial
condition, (b) Equatorial position.
6. State Gauss’ law in electrostatics. Using this law, (a) derive an expression for the electric
field due to a uniformly charged infinite plane sheet, (b) Using this law derive an
expression for the electric field due to a long straight wire of linear charge density
C /m .
7. Define equipotential surface.Write two characteristics of equipotential surfaces.Draw the
equipotential surfaces due to an electric dipole.
8. Deduce the expression for the potential energy of a system of two point charges q1 and
q2 brought form infinity to the points with positions r1 and r2 respectively, in presence of
external electric field. E.
9. i. Deduce the expression for the energy stored in a charged capacitor.

10. On charging a parallel plate capacitor to a potential V, the spacing between the plates is
halved and a dielectric medium of is introduced between the plates without disconnecting
the DC source. Explain, using suitable expressions, how the
a. Capacitance
b. Electric field and
c. Energy density of the capacitor changes?
11. Derive the expression for the capacitance of a parallel plate capacitor having plate area A
and plate separation d.
12. Two charged spherical conductors of radii R1 and R2 when connected by a conducting
plate respectively. Find the ratio of their surface charge densities in terms of their radii.
13. Derive an expression for the capacitance of a partially filled parallel plate capacitor.
14. Two identical parallel plate (air) capacitors C1 and C2 have capacitance C each. The
space between their plates is now filled with dielectrics as shown in the figure. It the two
capacitors still have equal capacitance, they obtain the relation between dielectric
constants K, K1 and K2.
