Study Plan

“Knowledge is Power” has always been the motivating force behind all the accomplishments in my life.
From very beginning I had lots of interest in computer and wanted to study computer science. Later on,
when first computer came in my home back in 2002, it brought about a revolutionary change in my life.
Soon after, I started spending my time itching computers rather than professionally operating it. And it
would be interesting to relate that in my neighborhood, I became the computer-guy who was supposed
to solve all computer hardware/software problems. As the time went by, I reached my 9 th grade and even
with manioc interest in computers, I took Biology as an elective subject due to the unavailability of
computer lab in my secondary school. This never became the reason to change my affection with
computers.

The desire to get complete knowledge about computing and specifically about software prompted me to
enroll myself at International finance University; one of the most prestigious institutes of Pakistan. Today
as a 27-years-old, I think that life for me has been a process of conscious evolution. The most integral
part of this growth is the value system imbibed in me by my parents, teachers, mentors and an intrigued
liking for computing. This played a vital role in my decision-making for future. My undergraduate
education not only gave me a certain set of skills but also helped me understand my fields of interest and
my academic strengths. I came to the realization that how-of writing human and computer readable
software involves more than just coding. There I learned more about Software Engineering, Software
Design and Architecture, Software Testing & Quality Assurance, Software Project Management,
Algorithmic Analysis, and software development in variety of programming languages.

I was also honored by the chair of the department to participate in automating university’s core
business processes during my final year. This enabled me to work with best minds and I learned
extensive software analysis, design and development technologies/methodologies in practice. Beyond
my academic disposition and experience, I was also deeply involved in extracurricular activities such as
games (Cricket, Badminton and Football), traveling and participating in different social activities. I was
also the member of departmental disaster management club and participated in Flood Relief Campaign
in year 2010. Furthermore, due to excellent managerial and communication skills I was also elected as
the Class Representative in my undergraduate school.

Currently, being Database Administrator (DBA) at National University of Science and Technology (NUST)
since February 2012, I possessed industry-hardened skills in computers, but I must build on these to
achieve my goal of undertaking radical research in analysis, design and development of complex
software systems. I, therefore, believe that I must return to the higher studies so to achieve career
excellence in organization, R&D and to benefit the society.

My main purpose for applying at Beihang University (BUAA) is to pursue a unique research-based
graduate degree with international exposure at its innovative campus. I learnt of this university from one
of my teachers. Later on, through online study, Beihang University Graduate Program of Computer
Science and Technology caught my attention and after going through the curriculum, I concluded, there
would be a good fit between my interest, skills and Beihang University (BUAA). The quality of the faculty,
flexibility of the graduate program, research and university position in international ranking, the diverse
areas of ongoing research, the carefully designed depth and breadth of courses seem to me as the right
ambience to nurture my research interests and path towards my ambition. In the same way, I found
many professors doing R&D in my intended research areas; requirements engineering, change
management, global software development, empirical design and agile practices. In closing, I want to
restate the possessed enthusiasm, passion and obsession that will enable me to meet high expectations
and challenging environment of Beihang University (BUAA). My consistency in all previous academic and
co-curricular activities is what gives me confidence in saying this.
