I have chosen to interview Mrs. Benner. I chose Mrs. Benner because she is a counselor
at Copper Hills and I am not very familiar with her. The way I have contacted Mrs. Benner is
through email. I will be interviewing Mrs. Benner in her counseling office because I feel as if
where she works is a great place to think about the environment that counselors work in. I feel

Counselors have many degrees that they can get and it really depends on what type of
counselor you are wanting to be. To be a certified/licensed school counselor you must have a
graduate degree in school counseling (Walkinson 2019). A master’s degree in school counseling or a
related field is required by most states for school counselors in grades K-12 (Bates 2018). Typical pay
normally depends on the type of counseling as well, otherwise for school counselors the typical
pay for them is 62,000 a year. A school counselor may work at any level of education, including
elementary, middle, and high school, as well as college. They are employed for all grade levels at both
private and public schools. In general, counselors work a full-time schedule, but some have summers off
depending on the school’s operating calendar. A counselor usually reports to the school principal (Bates
2018).

characteristics and interpersonal competencies (University Of Pacific, 2019). Many of the goals is to
focus on how to deal with the problems and what you can do to make things better.
