Title

“Recycle or Murder Mother Earth”

Specific Purpose: To persuade my class to recycle.

Central Idea: Recycling is a problem caused by people, but we the people are the
solution.
Introduction
According to the Environmental Protection Agency the average person generates over
four pounds of trash every day and about one and a half tons of solid waste per year. Four
pounds per day is similar to throwing away a speech book away everyday or throwing
away two phones. We do not take in account the amount of money or material that is
wasted. If your refrigerator or cellphone is broken you don’t throw it away. You fix it.
We can do the same with soda cans or water bottles after they have been opened or
broken. I know this because I recycle.

(Transition: Let’s talk about the problem of recycling we have today.)

Body
I. The problem is the people who can prevent the waste of materials.

A. Not recycling causes pollution.

1. By having pollution present we are slowly killing ourselves.

2. Pollution slowly kills the beauty of grass and the Earth.

3. Pollution causes an easier pathway for disease.

B. Not recycling causes financial loss.

1. Creating taxes to clean up your own trash.

2. Making new material instead of reusing.

3. Disposing of already made material and having to make more.

4. Selling your material to a recycling center.

(Internal Summary: Now that we have exposed the problem, let us expose the cause.)

II. The cause is within the person who needs to recycle.

A. People do not see what is recyclable.

1. You can recycle metal, plastic, and paper.

2. Clothes that is no longer fashionable or fit.

3. Everyday materials are also recyclable.

B. Locations are not varied or recognized.

1. There needs to be as many recycling centers as gas stations.

2. The locations are not broadcasted.

3. Recycling boxes are everywhere.

(Transition: Time to begin with the solution.)

III. The solution is being informed and motivated.

A. Being informed or educated.

1. You are aware of the locations.

2. You are aware of the potential outcomes.

B. Being motivated.

1. Being rewarded in money.

2. Being rewarded by values or morals.

Conclusion

Tonight, I hope I have persuaded you to take in a new policy of recycling. I have
persuaded you to take in this new policy by presenting you guys with the problem, cause,
and solution. You may be the problem. You may be the cause. You may be the solution.
Recycle continuously or die and murder slowly. I will not beg you to recycle, for it will
affect you in the end if you don’t.
