Learning at the Psychological Level: Eating some fish can make you sick
->An individual might notice that after eating a certain kind of food, people get sick.
->Recall the different kinds of learning from the previous lecture–what kind of learning is this?
->Synapses are the spaces between neurons, where communication happens. Synapses get
more efficient with repeated use. This is “Hebb Theory.”
->Neurons that fire together, wire together. This is how associations are learned.
->So, if you have some neurons representing the concept of poison, and others representing the
eating of a certain kind of fish, then those neurons will be more likely to co-activate in the future
The dendrites collect information. The axons send messages which then cause other neurons to
react and fire.
Learning biologically: talk about neurons, dendrites. Learning psychologically: discuss
behaviour.
Serious games are games that are fun and they help you and society.
A paradigm is a framework for understanding the world that a scientific discipline has. This class
is in the cognitive science paradigm. Often when a new paradigm comes, often the old
paradigm does not accept the new ideas of the new paradigm.
Activation level example: I tell you about water and rivers and then say banks, you will probably
think about river banks instead of Scotiabank. Different memory has different levels of
activation. This is not a behavioural or just a biological explanation.

what they do) rather than by their physical properties (i.e., anatomy).

Ex, what is money made of. Lots of people don’t even use cash. Money is sometimes a bill,
sometimes coins, sometimes it is a record of your wealth. Money can be in many forms. It can
even be a mental activity (notion of debt). Money is not tied to its physical concept, i.e.,
functionalism.
