Explanatory notes: 3. Public holidays/compulsory vacation days

1. Academic Year
- The academic year comprises 2 semesters, each of 21 weeks
(public holidays and compulsory vacation days not included)
in which lectures, examinations, completion of assignments
etc. take place
- Re-sits may take place in July and August (see also '2.
Examinations')
- For course and examination schedules see the Faculty
websites
- Opening academic year: 4 September 2017, no lectures
between 14:00 and 17:00 hrs
2. Examinations
- Examinations and re-sits may take place during semesters I
and II
- Re-sits may take place in July and August, except for the EL
CID introduction week (13-17 August 2018) and the OWL (27-
31 August 2018)
- 8 September 2017: no lectures after 13.00 hrs, because of the
inaugurations at the student associations*
- 15 September 2017: no lectures after 17.00 hrs, because of the
introduction weekends of the study associations**
- 3 October 2017: Relief of Leiden
- 27 November 2017: Cleveringa lecture, no lectures between 15.00-
18.00 hrs
- 25 December 2017 up to and including 1 January 2018: Christmas
and New Year
- 8 February 2018: Dies, no lectures between 13.00 and 17.00 hrs
- 30 March 2018: Good Friday
- 1 and 2 April 2018: Easter
- 27 April 2018 Kings' Day
- 5 May 2018: Liberation Day
- 10 and 11 May 2018: Ascension Day
- 20 and 21 May 2018: Whitsun
