control all analysis functions. Gathered signal samples and
all processing results of the offline analysis are organized
in a project (file tree) structure that is used for navigation
and for starting the following processing steps.

from different sources:

Calculation of signal-adapted spectrograms

The R&S®CA210 calculates a spectrogram of a recorded
signal sample or wideband signal scenario sample pro-
viding a complete overview about the behaviour of the
included signals. The operator can calculate several spec-
trograms (with different FFT lengths, window types and
overlap factors may be used according to special emis-
sion types). The spectrogram is presented in a zoomable
and scrollable window. Additionally, a spectrum can be
activated.

Selection of emissions of interest

The operator selects emissions of interest and investigates
them with an automatic classification algorithm or by
manual measurement.

Automatic signal Wideband signal sample investigation
To speed up the investigation of a wideband signal sample
that may contain a large number of different emissions, an

detection and automatic detection function is provided. The algorithm

operates on a selected sample portion and delivers the
time/frequency segments of all emissions matching the

classification for search criteria (such as frequency range of interest, emis-

sion power and bandwidth). Additionally a classification
of the detected signal can be performed to measure the

fast and reliable modulation parameters and determine the signals trans-
mission system / channel code.

results Detected emissions listed in a table and

highlighted in the spectrogram
The operator can refine the detection process and edit
the emission list in order to obtain a data set contain-
ing all emissions of interest. This function also enables a
user to reproduce online detection results delivered by
the R&S®CA120 multichannel signal analysis software (for
more information, see the R&S®CA120 product brochure
and adapt the detection parameters for difficult online
search operations using the automatic detect, search and
classify workflow of R&S®CA120DSC.

To get a complete and structured overview of the mea-

sured signals the user can filter signals with certain techni-
cal parameters. The filtered signals are highlighted in the
spectrogram.

A selection of detected and classified e

 missions
is highlighted in the spectrogram. In this
example all signals are highlighted with baud
rates between 95 Bd and 105 Bd.

Automatic signal with complex classes of signals such as PACTOR III
and STANAG 4285, this involves the identification of
signal-specific characteristics such as frame structures,

classification bit patterns and operational modes. Alternatively, pure

bitstream classification is performed based on the sym-
bol stream of a universal demodulator that is applied (e.g.
FSK2 – Baudot, multitone – Piccolo MK12).

Detailed interactive Technical parameters of unknown signals
R&S®CA210 covers the measurement methods specified
in the ITU-R SM.1600 recommendation. For unknown

modulation analysis signals, it offers a variety of representations and tools for

analyzing and measuring technical parameters such as
bandwidth, symbol rate, number of tones, tone spacing,
shift, modulation index, length of guard interval, number

sis. The filter bandwidth is automatically adapted to filter
out all disturbing out-of-band emissions and noise. Time/frequency segmentation including filtering makes
multichannel methods, noncontinuous emissions (bursts)
and densely occupied signal scenarios easy to handle.
Methods using multiple modulation (e.g. AM‑FSK,
FM‑FSK) and (coded) orthogonal frequency division mul-
tiplex ((C)OFDM) signals can be easily measured and
analyzed.

I/Q constellation diagrams and eye patterns are available

Using automatic and manual measurement
together
The system's interactive modulation analysis feature is the
most powerful way to quickly achieve reliable modulation
analysis. The automatic classification algorithm displays all
its results, giving the operator access to all relevant inter-
mediate results (including time and frequency segmenta-
tion, primary demodulation, symbol rate estimation, equal-
ization, harmonic analysis and sampling).

The operator can verify the output of the automatic clas-

sification process one step at a time and concentrate on
analysis steps where the algorithmic output might need
manual refinement.

Integration with Use as standalone solution
The R&S®CA210 can be used as a standalone solution
for HF and VHF/UHF technical analysis. An optionally

other products attached R&S®GX460 or R&S®GX465 recording/replay

unit allows the import and analysis of recorded digital
wideband and narrowband I/Q data.
