Baybayin being integrated to Filipino subject: The perspective of Elementary and Highschool Students

INTRODUCTION
Baybayin is part of our Philippine culture, it can lead to discoveries about yourself as a Filipino and about the
richness of Filipino culture. It is one of the Philippines native script which descended from Brahmic script from
India and other parts of south asia. This is mainly because of the rich trading culture within the religion.
Baybayin is part and parcel of who we are as Filipinos, unfortunately the practice of it has become a dying art.
Ironically Filipinos today have no idea of Baybayin is about. Baybayin was the Filipinos original form of writing
until the script was completely wipe out. Making us a nation with an identity that is lost. We will conduct a
survey about the insights of the elementary students and high school students of University of the East
Caloocan ranging from 11 to 16 years old, about baybayin to be part of the Filipino subject for elementary and
highschool students.

Statement of the Problem


This study aims to explore and describe the perspective of Elementary and Junior Highschool in University of
the East about Baybayin being integrated to Filipino subject.
1. What are the insights of the students in Baybayin?
2. What are the perceptions of students when Baybayin is injected in the Filipino subject?
3. Do the students think Baybayin is beneficial?

Significance of the Study


This is study is deemed significant to the following:
( For the Community ) This will benefit the community to know and inform about Baybayin.
( For the Students ) By having this study, this will help the students to maintain or preserve our national
writing system. Also, they can teach other students by passing their knowledge about Baybayin. By that, it can
be their basis in applying leadership skills.
( For the School ) In this study, schools will also benefit by helping the students. Schools will serve as an
instrument for maintaining.
( For Future Researchers ) This study could give them information that could correspond to this topic. This
might also be an initial topic that they can develop and have in depth researchers for their study or can be
their basis in making a topic that might be connected to our work.
Scope and Delimitations
This study is focused on the perceptions of the Elementary and Junior Highschool students in the University of
the East school year 2019-2020 about Baybayin being integrated in Filipino subject. Our study will be using
purposive sampling, The participants will be chosen inside the university. This study would employ an
interview with 20 participants in Elementary and Junior Highschool students ages 11-16 years old grades 5 and
6, we will pick 10 for the Elementary five for Grade 5 and five for Grade 6. These does not include ages lower
than 10 years old because it is too deep for them to learn our writing system
