Q. 1. A block weighing 100 KN is placed on rough horizontal


plane. A pull force of 40 KN is applied at an angle 300 on it. If the
block is just on the point of moving ,find the coefficient of friction

2. Two identical blocks A & B are connected by rod & rest against vertically & horizontal planes
resp. as shown in fig. If sliding impends when θ=45°, determine the µ assuming it to be same at
both floor & wall.

3. A point P moves along a straight line according to the equation x=4t3+2t+5, where X is in meters, t is
in seconds. Determine the velocity and acceleration when t=3 sec

4. A point P starts moving along a straight line according to the equation V=4t 2+2t+5, where X

5. A particle is projected with initial velocity of 2 m/s along a straight line. The relation between
acceleration and time is given in the diagram. Draw v-t and s-t diagram.

6. From v-t diagram , find i) distance travelled in 10sec.ii)total distance travelled in 50 sec.iii)
retardation.
7. Locate the ICR of link AB. Find also the angular velocity of link OA. Take velocity of slider
at B equals to 2500mm/s. The link & slider mechanism is as shown in fig.

8. Rod of length 3m is kept on smooth planes as shown in figure. The velocity of end A is 10m/s along
the inclined plane. Locate the ICR and find the velocity of end B.

9. Find the minimum force P applied to the lock which will hold the system in equilibrium. Take
coefficient of static friction as 0.25 for all surfaces.

10. Find the support reactions for the beam shown in figure.
11. Find support reactions at A and E for the beam loaded as shown in figure.

12. A curvilinear motion of a particle is defined by V x=25-8t m/s and Y=48-3t2 m. At

t=0,x=0.Find out position ,velocity and acceleration at t=4 sec.

13. A car enters a curved portion of the road of radius 200m travelling at a constant speed of 36km/hr.
Determine the component of velocity & acceleration of the car in the X & Y direction 15sec after it
has entered the curved portion of the road. Also express the velocity & the acceleration of the car in
terms of the normal & tangential components.

14. State i) D’Alembert’s principle with two examples. ii) Derive expression of Work-Energy Principle .
iii) Explain Impulse , momentum and the relation between them.

15. A ball is thrown in the air with velocity of 4m/s, at an angle of 30 0 with the horizontal .Determine
maximum height reached and range .State condition for maximum range and find maximum range.

16. A small projectile is fired vertically downward into a fluid medium with an initial
velocity of 60m/s. If the projectile experiences a deceleration which is equal to a= -0.4 V³ m/s² ,
where V is measured in m/s determine the projectile velocity & position 4sec. after it is fired.

17. Two masses of 5kg &2kg are positioned over frictionless & mass less pulley as shown in fig.
If the 5kg mass is released from rest, determine the speed at which the 5kg mass will hit the
ground.

18. The velocity of a body moving along a straight line follows the law V=1.25t-0.125t², where V
is the velocity in m/s at time t second. Find (i) The maximum acceleration (ii) The distance moved
in 10 seconds.
19. A slider crank mechanism is shown in fig. The crank OA rotates anticlockwise at 100rad/s.
Find the angular velocity of rod AB & the velocity of the slider at B.

20. In the system of pulleys, masses are connected using inextensible cables shown in fig. The
pulleys & cables are considered mass less & frictionless. Mass of A=2kg, Mass of B=4kg &
Mass of C=6kg. If the system is released from rest find (i) tension in each of the three cables. (ii)
acceleration of each of the three masses.

21. A cylinder of radius 1m rolls without slipping along a horizontal plane AB as shown in fig. Its
centre has a uniform velocity of 20m/s Find the velocity of point D & E on the rim of the cylinder.
22. A block ‘A’ weighing 40KN is placed on another block ‘B’ weighing 10KN as shown in fig.
The angle of friction for all contact surfaces is “φ =16°” Find the force ‘P’ applied to the lower
block B so as to just start the upward motion of block ‘A’.

23. A wedge A & block B are subjected to known load Q=10KN & force P as shown in fig.
determine the range of force P for which there is no motion.

24. A 3000N block shown in fig. slides down a 50° incline. It starts from rest after moving 2m it
strikes a spring whose modulus is 20N/mm. If the µ=0.2, determine the maximum deformation of
the spring & the maximum velocity of the block.

25. A 2kg ball moving with 0.4m/s towards right collides with another ball of mass 3kg moving
with 0.5m/s towards left. Determine the velocities of the balls after impact & the corresponding
percentage loss of K.E. when, (i) the impact is perfectly elastic (ii) the impact is perfectly plastic
(iii) the impact is such that, e=0.7.
