I. Objective
Identify the voice of the verb in each sentence.
Rewrite the sentence changing the voice from active to passive.

B. Motivation
1. Divide students into 5 groups.
2. Choose a leader for each group.
3. Think of a verb and sing “ Verb Banana, verb verb banana”
Ex. Drink Banana, Drink Drink Banana
4. Execute the action while singing.
5. Point another group after singing.

C. Presentation/Discussion
Voice is the quality of a verb that shows whether the subject is the doer or receiver of the action.
Active Voice- the subject performs the action denoted by the verb or in other words the subject is the doer of
the action.
Form:(Doer of the Action+verb+receiver of the action)
Passive Voice-The subject is no longer aactive or the subject is acted upon by the verb.
Form: (Receiver of the action+be verb+past participle+prep. BY+ doer of the action)
In the passive voice, third form of the verb is used.

Tense Rule

Present Indefinite Tense is/am/are + V3

Present Continuous Tense is/am/are + being + V3

Present Perfect Tense has/have + been + V3

Past Indefinite Tense was/were + V3

Past Continuous Tense was/were + being + V3

Past Perfect Tense had + been + V3

Future Indefinite Tense will/shall + be + V3

Future Perfect Tense will/shall + have + been + V3

Modal Verb: will, shall, would should, can, could, may, might, Modal Verb + be + V3

must, ought to + V1

Infinity: to + V1 to be + V3
I, We, He, She, They are changed into me, us, him, her, them

Study the following sentences:
A student wrote the winning essay.
Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone.

2. What are the verbs used?
3. What voice of the verb is used in the following sentences?

What is the format in changing active to passive voice?
G. Application
Write A in the blank before the number if the sentence is active and P if passive. Then, rewrite the sentence
changing its voice.
1. I am writing a letter.
2. A car was being driven by Robert.
3. The students had completed the assignment.
4. Maria will have started the job.
5. Her work has been finished by her.

IV. Assessment
A. Decide whether the following sentences are written in the active or passive voice. Then, write the
doer of the action on the line to the right. If the doer is unknown, write a question mark.
1. Thomas feeds his dog.
2. The dog is fed by Thomas.
3. Raul presented an interesting report.
4. The letter was written by Marshall.
5. The game had been won by the blue team.

V. Assignment
Write three sentences that is in the active voice. Then, change it to passive.
