Dear Sir / Madam,

Ever since I was young, I have been constantly exposed in the world of numbers as I have been helping
in the family business to manage and validate the receivables. I still remember the day when I realized
I need to build my career in the analytics domain. My father lost the inventory book which contains the
information on the stocks distributed in the local market. Luckily the information lost was not more than
two months; but out of curiosity I took the previous books and tried to find the patterns in the sales which
allowed me to come up with reasonable estimates on the receivable from the major clients.

My passion for numbers allowed me to secure an admission in an undergraduate program at University

of Karachi in Actuarial Science and Risk Management. During my studies I have been exposed to many
aspects of the analytics domain covering insurance, investments, banking and general business
segments. However the depth and complexity of analytics in insurance sector inclined me to select
actuarial domain as my career path. I have now more than six years of experience in actuarial field and
now I am planning to extend my capabilities and capacity in this domain. I believe this program at
Lisbon School of Economics and Management in Actuarial Science can offer the required skill-set and
global exposure which can help me in achieving next career goal.

Other than studies I also participate in extracurricular activities including sports and social work. My
biggest achievement in sports is the first position in the Interdepartmental Tournaments, 2007, organized
by University of Karachi, in High Jump Championship. I also pride myself of being part of The Citizens
Foundation (TCF) which is Pakistan’s most prestigious NGO working on quality education domain for
unprivileged children. I am working with TCF as a volunteer in their program called “Rahber“ (Leader
or Role Model). As a Rahber I guide the school kids on the worth of quality education and what impact
it can make in harnessing a higher standard of life.
With respect to my current scholastics, I am also appearing in the certification exams of Institute of
Actuaries which has a great deal of inspiration for me. However, I am always of the opinion that in
addition to certification by a professional body, a proper university degree will be essential in equipping
me sufficiently well for satisfying the hunger and the requirements of truly professional research and for
being able to develop exciting methodologies. I have cleared Six exams so far and now I will be focusing
on my Master’s degree. I believe, by studying in my Masters, and gradually appearing in the certification
exams will increase my ability to question and develop answers in the form of research.

Pakistan being a developing country, has an emerging Insurance market. It has only been recently that
the new products has been introduced in the market that has been regulated while still certain changes
are yet to be brought under the regulation umbrella. The background that the local market in Pakistan is
still using tariff-based pricing for insurance products really encourages me to acquire higher level of
education enabling me to channel my career and growth opportunities to excel in this Field. The
Actuarial program will be giving me applied education and research opportunities in the Insurance sector
of European markets which is a big source of inspiration for me.

An actuarial degree is not only challenging but also exceptionally diverse in this growing world of big
data and analytics and therefore can lead to many opportunities; I will thrive on studying its many depths
and breadths. At present I have only just ventured into the actuarial world and I am eager to learn more.
Potentially I would like to set up my own consulting firm in the future and an actuarial based higher
education will aid me. I see myself as a very capable and enthusiastic person who will grasp this
challenging degree with both hands to further my academic potential and become an asset in the market.
