Introduction
of the
Engine Control Unit ECU-7
ADEC

DaimlerChrysler Off-Highway 10.04.2007 Griener / BlueLine 2

ECU-7 Introduction

¾ The new “Engine Control Unit ECU-7” is a device of the

system ADEC (Advanced Diesel Engine Controller).

¾ The ECU-7 is designed for the engine series 2000 CR

(e.g. M92/93) and 4000 CR (V03) and controls/ monitors
the engine sensors, injectors and solenoids.

¾ The device is also in interaction with the electronic

systems SmartLine, BlueLine, BlueVison and
SAM (for GENSET).

4
ECU-7 Introduction

Technical information
¾ Injection system:
ƒ Common Rail
¾ Programmable injector control:
ƒ One Box for 4 different injector types
¾ Multiple injection:
ƒ 42V Injector control voltage speeds up the injector response time
ƒ Improves engine emissions and fuel consumption
¾ 20 injector drive outputs with one box
¾ Torque based Engine management
ƒ Easy handling of power calibration
¾ Sequential turbo charger switching
¾ Flexible monitoring
¾ Interface available for exhaust gas recirculation (EGR)

5
ECU-7 Introduction

¾ Robust and simple design

ƒ ADEC was designed to
withstand a harsher
environment than the
previous MDEC.
ƒ In addition the ECU-7 is
totally integrated in the
engines silhouette.

6
ECU-7 Introduction

¾ Increased shock and

vibration stress ability
ƒ Mechanical robustness was a
main goal of the box design

Harness strain relief to protect

connectors from inertia forces

7
ECU-7 Introduction

¾ Increased temperature range

ƒ ADEC works at case temperatures
from –40°C up to +105°C within
the specified accuracy.

=> No cooling plate required

8
ECU-7 Introduction

¾ Easy Diagnostics
ƒ Diagnostic lamp lights up at
powered Box.
ƒ Self test is running if no connector
is plugged and power supply is
applied.
ƒ On box fault, diagnostic lamp
remains dark.

9
ECU-7 Overview Functions

¾The ECU-7 has the following main functions/features:

ƒ Control of the injection system.
ƒ Acquisition and evaluation of the engine operating states.
ƒ Limit value monitoring.
ƒ In case of inadmissible states and limit value violations:
•Initiation of power reduction, engine stop or emergency stop
(configurable).
ƒ Transfer of MCS-5 and RCS-5 inputs to the engine.
ƒ Self monitoring.
ƒ Diagnosis is possible via CAN interface with the dialog unit
( since DiaSys 2.32).

15
ECU-7 Differences MDEC/ADEC

¾ Overview of the main differences to the ECU-4 (Service View):

ƒ No internal exchangeable fuse.
ƒ No exchangeable modules „EDM“ and „IDM“.
ƒ No internal „Failure Code Display“.
ƒ No serial interface to the Dialogue Unit, only communication via CAN
(attention: new tools are necessary).
ƒ Parameter set is divided in engine parameters (MPS) and application
parameters (APS) Æ update via EPROM.
ƒ New parameter structure (ZKP numbers).
ƒ Extended failure code list.
