Ayurveda is one of the ancient science.

This is a part of atharva veda.

Etymologically the word ayurveda is a combination of two words.

Ayush means life and veda meaning knowledge. Heance ayurveda is the science that imparts knowledge
of not just the physical , but also the psycohological and spiritual well-being of mankind.

As per Indian philosophy there are fours aims to be accomplished by man.

Dharma : Righteousness

Artha : Wealth

Kama : Desire

Moksha : salvation.

The basic of ayurveda, as per sankhya yoga the great five elements

Space

Air

Fire

Water

Earth

The fundamental belief of ayurveda is that the human body is basically composed of three energy
components called

Three doshas

Seven Dhatus

And three Malas


In extension to the above mentioned we can treat with a proper six basic taste

Sweet

Sour

Salty

Bitter

Punget

Astringent

The three doshas are

Vata

Pitha

Kapha

Vata is the air element responsible for movements, hence it generates motion and vitality in th body.

Pitha is the heart energy in the body, pitha regulates the enzymes and the hormones in the body

Kapha orininates from water and provides nutition to the body and regulates the other two dosha

The three dosha and five elements

Vayu : space and air

Pitha : Fire and water

Kapha : Water and earth

There location and remedies, seven dhathus

Day 2

Vata :

Is mobile dry, cold, light. These attributes can be felt when breathing air in a state of excitement.

When vata is aggravated it leads to dryness, roughness, stiff body, pain similar to needle prick, joint
pain, brittle bones, numbness in limbs, constipation.

Reasons for aggravation are suppressing natural urges like excretion, urination and sneezing, eating
before digestion of previous meals, sleeping late, talking loudly, eating too much- dry pungent bitter
things, worrying and feeling tense always over indulgence in sexual activity , fasting, over eating cold
food, begin afraid.

Remedies :

Consumption of ghee, oily food, bathing with warm water, oil massage would help the vayu to
pacify.love and reassurance would reduce fear
Symptoms of low vata

Slowing down of various physiological function , unhappiness, reduction in perceptive powers,


weariness, nausea, indigestion etc..

Light, cold , bitter, pungent and spicy food items increases vayu.

Pitha :

This is hot, slightly greasy, pungent, liquid and smells.

Effects on physiology, when pitha dosha dominates in the body, it is called pitha constitution. Such
people have excessive hunger and thirst, graying of hair and baldness, sharpness of character, strong
digestive power, excessive sweating, urine and excreta, etc….

Symptoms of aggravated pitha

Fatigue, lack of strength and sleep, excessive sweating, buring sensation, darkening of
complexion , anger, dizziness, fainting, yellowing of skin, stool urine, nails are eyes , bitter taste in the
mouth are unique symptoms of aggravated pitha

Causes

Consumption of large quantities of bitter, sour , hot spicy, fermented food, and drinks increases pitha.

Consuming dry vegetables, alkaline foods, exporsure to too much heat and sun, indigestion , anger, fear
and depression affect pitha dosha.
Food items like sesame oil, mustard, green veditables, yogurt, butter milk, vinegar , intoxicating drinks,
creams of boiled milk, meat, mutton , aggravate pitha.

Remedies,

Causes of aggravation of pitha are to be discontinued intake of ghee is very useful remedy.

When pitha falls down reduction in digestion powers,dbody temperature, radiance and sheen on skin
and feeling of coldness would occur. Therefore pitha increasing food and hearbla medicines are to be
used. Herbal preparation which increases pitha should be used.

Kapha : Kapha is oily, sweet, heavy , soft , firm cold , moist and white.

People ith dominant kapha dosha have kapha body type

People with kapha constitution have abundance of strength, material wealth, knowledge and peace.
They also have a long life span

Symptoms of kapha :

Feeling languid, increased sleep, sweet taste in the mouth, feeling cold, itchy, heavy swelling,
congestion, nose , muscles, retarded response, cough , depression and feeling and lifelessness

Reasons :

Over eating sweet, sour, heavy oily, moist foods, food containing meat, fish , sesame, sugar cane and
milk. Eating before digestion of previous meal, lack of exercise, sleeping during the day, lack of physical
activity , all these increase kapha
Other food that increase kaptha are curds, milk, horse bean, rice pudding, seas food, fat, water,
chestnut, coconut, green guard, and pumpkin. And other vegetables that grow on creepers

Remedies:

Precaution are to be taken about the above food items to restore kapha balance

Eating honey worl dhlep, using pungent and hot herbal pereparation s would help to balance kapha.

Exercising, running , sit uips, swimming of dryness, burning sesation, looseness of joints and lack of
sleep. Induced vomiting is good as per ayurveda. Pungent and hot substancs should be used for induced
vomiting.

Rasa : Plasma Water

Rakta : Blood Fire

Mamsa : Muscle tissue Earth

Meda : Fat tissue Earth

Asthi : Bone tissue Air and space

Majja : Bone marrow Fire

Shukra Water

( Sperm in men

Ovum in women)
The three malas

1. Sweat
2. Urine
3. Feces
