Introduction

Technology has impacted almost every aspect of life today, and education is no

exception. In many ways, technology has profoundly changed education. For one, technology

has greatly expanded access to education. Massive amounts of information are now available at

one’s fingertips through the Internet, and opportunities for formal learning are available online

worldwide. Access to learning opportunities today is unprecedented in scope thanks to

technology. Technology is a powerful tool that can support and transform education in many

ways, from making it easier for teachers to create instructional materials to enabling new ways

for people to learn and work together.

Students, especially the ICT students, must be aware of the importance and the effects of

technology for their own good. Knowing this will help them use the technology more effectively

and avoid the negative impact of it. This paper is conducted by the researchers to help the ICT

students and the readers as well to know the technology more for them to use it more effectively

especially in education.

Objectives

 To understand and inform others about the technological language barrier between ICT

students and other students.

 To end the technological barrier between the students.

 To establish mutualism for students regarding technology.

Main Body

What is Technology Literacy?

Technology literacy is the ability to effectively use technology to access, evaluate,

integrate, create and communicate information to enhance the learning process through

problem-solving and critical thinking. (Webber, 2016).

Technology Literacy helps one to communicate, solve problems, and enhance

life-long learning skills for future progress. Technology Skills: Technology skills are

computer skills that one must possess to utilize technology effectively in any academic or

non-academic setting. The possession of skills to use appropriate technology to

communicate and search for information, and to be able to critically evaluate the

accuracy and currency of the information obtained and integrate it in the synthesizing of

new information. (Webber, 2016).

Understanding The Technological Linguistic Barrier Between ICT Students and Other

Strands

Technology can be use in learning like said before and not only that but

communication as well. Opportunities for communication and collaboration have also

been expanded by technology. Students can now share their learnings to the other

students in other places and students who are tracking the same expedition. If and only if

they are both technologically inclined so the they can work and communicate

collaboratively

With the worldwide reach of technological advancements technology will no

longer be rare. Given the circumstances, students will eventually have to learn about

technology anyways.

With technology rising technological terms are slowly becoming more unfamiliar

especially with the newer generation. This can be seen at schools that lack the

technological education with students.

Choosing Technologies For Teaching and Learning

Technology has a great impact in our daily lives and it’s important for us,

especially the students to know the properly use of it. Here are some of the guidelines in using

technology effectively in education:

Technology ushers in fundamental structural changes that can be integral to achieving

significant improvements in productivity. Used to support both teaching and learning,

technology infuses classrooms with digital learning tools, such as computers and hand held

devices; expands course offerings, experiences, and learning materials; supports learning 24

hours a day, 7 days a week; builds 21st century skills; increases student engagement and

motivation; and accelerates learning.

Technology also has the power to transform teaching by ushering in a new model of

connected teaching. This report links teachers to their students and to professional content,

resources, and systems to help them improve their own instruction and personalize learning.

Online learning opportunities and the use of open educational resources and other

technologies can increase educational productivity by accelerating the rate of learning; reducing

costs associated with instructional materials or program delivery; and better utilizing teacher

time.

Results

 In the first question, 2 out of 5 of the interviewees answered that they are not that

familiarized with technology. While 3 out of 5 said that they are familiar of using

technology such as cellphones, computers, etc.

 In the second question, all of the interviewees said that they really don’t need to be that

familiarized with technology since they can already do common tasks with technology

such as browsing the internet and so on.

 In the third question, all of them answered that they are not all familiar with those

technical terms therefore implying that they lack knowledge in those fields.

 In the fourth question, all of them said the same answer. They said that they normally use

technology such as cell phones on a daily basis. Some of them even said that their

cellphones were with them all the time.

 In the fifth question, 3 out of 5 students said that they did not even consider technology in

picking their strand because they were focused on choosing their chosen fields. The other

2 students considered technology because it is a part of their strand.

Conclusion

The researcher conclude that knowing the proper and technical terms should be

considered in teaching in the academic curriculum. Knowing how technology works and how it

affects our lives is important for us to learn especially because technology will be a bigger part

of our lives in the long run. We students are responsible in keeping this technological tradition

alive in order to help our country develop especially when it comes to technology .Knowing how

important this terms are will help motive students in studying technology. A student that is

computer literate has the potential greater than others who don’t.

Appendices

In this report, we use the instrument for gathering information Interview. The researcher

interviewed the student of BEC in the Grade 11 ICT strand. Here are the questions used:

1. How familiarized are you with technology?

2. Have you ever considered learning about technology?

3. Are you familiar with technical terms such as turbo c, java, python, etc.

4. How often do you use technology?

5. Based on your knowledge about technology, did this affect your decision in choosing

your strand?
