1. A carrier signal with RMS voltage amplitude of 2V and a frequency of 1.5 MHz
is amplitude modulated by a modulating sine wave with a frequency of 500 Hz and
RMS amplitude level of 1 V.
a) Write an expression for the resulting AM signal.
b) Calculate amplitude modulation index ma percent modulation Ma
c) Rewrite the expression for AM wave by considering the value of ma as 0.5

2. An AM transmitter has an unmodulated carries signal power Pc = 100 W which


is modulated by three modulating signal simultaneously with modulation index as
ma1 = 0.2, ma2 = 0.4, ma3 = 0.5. Determine the modulation index of complex AM
signal.

3. An transmitter has an unmodulated carrier power of 10 KW. It can be modulated


by a sinusoidal modulating signal to a maximum depth of 40 %, without over
loading. If the maximum modulation is reduced to 30 %, what is the extent up to
which the unmodulated carrier power can be increased?

6. An AM signal is given by the expression

b) Unmodulated carrier power
c) Sideband power and
d) Total power of AM signal.

7. In the frequency domain analysis of AM wave, it is observed that the power of


its sideband is 15 dB below that of the carrier signal. Find the modulation index.

8. Consider AM signal VAM (t) = 10 [1+ 0.5 sin (ωm t)] cos (ωm t). Determine the
average sideband power.

9. Compare AM, DSBSC, SSB and VSB modulation techniques.

10. For an AM DSBFC wave with a peak unmodulated carrier voltage Vc = 10 V, a


load resistance RL = 10 Ω, and a modulation co efficient ma = 1, determine
a) Powers of the carrier, upper and lower side bands
b) Total power of the modulated wave
c) Total sideband power
d) Draw the power spectrum.
11. Explain the different types of communication channels.

12. Determine the wavelength of voice signal of 1 KHz frequency, broadcast radio frequency of
100 MHz and cellular phone frequency of 900 MHz

13. The total Power content of an AM signal is 1000W. Determine the power being transmitted
at carrier frequency and at each side band when modulation percentage is 100%.

14. A500W, 100 KHz carrier is modulated to a depth of 60% by modulating frequency of 1KHz.
Calculate the total power transmitted. What are the sideband components of AM Wave?

15. A Carrier of 750 W, 1MHz is amplitude modulated by sinusoidal signal of 2 KHz to a depth
of 50%. Calculate Bandwidth, Power in side band and total power transmitted.

16. An AM signal is detected using an envelope detector. The carrier frequency and modulation
signal frequency are 1 MHz and 2 KHz respectively. An appropriate value for the time constant
of the envelope detector is (a) 500 µsec (b) 20 µsec (c) 0.2 µsec (d) 1 µsec (Choose the right
