Question
How do I make a full backup of my SE distributed Application in version 8.10 and above?

Environment
FactoryTalk View SE version 8.10 and above - Distributed Applications

Answer
The Distributed Application Manager is for making a complete (HMI Server and Directory information) backup of your FactoryTalk View SE Distributed application, it is also for
managing the restore process. For all other types of applications (Local SE and ME applications) use the Application Manager.

To make a manual backup

1. Open the FactoryTalk Distributed Application Manager
Click Start > Programs > Rockwell Software > FactoryTalk View SE > Tools > Distributed Application Manager
2. Select the Create a Backup tab, Choose the application that you want to backup

3. If you want check the box to Encrypt the backup, specify the Archive name, the Traget folder and select Backup

4. Wait for the Backup to compleat and then press Close

To restore a backup
1. Open the FactoryTalk Distributed Application Manager
Click Start > Programs > Rockwell Software > FactoryTalk View SE > Tools > Distributed Application Manager
2. Select the Restore an Archive tab, choose the Archive file (.apb) previouslly made by the Distributed Application Manager
3. Select the Scope of Restore normally you would select just the Restore Application, however depending on the situation you may also want to restore more
(FactoryTalk Direct etc.) or less (Just the HMI server).
NOTE: If just restoring the HMI server then the Application that contains the HMI server must already exist and the HMI server also must already exist in that application
otherwise you will need to manually make them or select Restore Application.
4. In the Make Restore Selections in some cases you can choose where to restore the Servers in the application and in the case of HMI servers not to restore the
secondary server at all if needed.
NOTE: You can only restore to Servers that are turned ON and have been connected to the same FactoryTalk Directory server. If they are not part of the Directory they
will not be listed and if they are turned off the restore will fail.
5. Enter the name of the Application that you are restoring and select Restore to start the restore process
6. After a few minutes (depening on the size and scope it maybe longer) the application will be restored. If there where any errors please review the log shown at the end
of the process.

You will need to configure the Windows Task Schedular to run this Bat file on a schedual. To do this open Windows Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Task Schedular >
