General Instructions:
1. All questions are compulsory. There are 37 questions in all.
2. This question paper has four sections: Section A, Section B, Section C and Section D.
3. Section A contains twenty questions of one mark each, Section B contains seven questions of
two marks each, Section C contains seven questions of three marks each, and Section D
contains three questions of five marks each.
4. There is no overall choice. However, internal choices have been provided in two questions of
one mark each, two questions of two marks, one question of three marks and three questions
of five marks weightage. You have to attempt only one of the choices in such questions.
5. You may use the following values of physical constants where ever necessary.

connecting a resistance R 1 in series with the coil. If the resistance R 2 is connected in series
with it, then it can measure up to V/2 volts. Find the resistance in terms of R 1 and R 2, which
is required to be connected so as to convert it into voltmeter that can read up to 2 V.

a) Derive an expression for the magnetic field at a point on the axis of a current carrying circular
loop.

b) Two co-axial circular loop L 1 and L 2 of radii 3 cm and 4 cm are placed as shown. What
should be the magnitude and direction of the current in the loop L 2 so that the net magnetic
field at the point O is zero?
