In the following text, we will analyze chapter 1 of season 3 of the Netflix series "Black Mirror",
focusing on how new technologies sweep away the traditional, and are gradually placed in every
possible space within the functioning of society, replacing values and elements that we would
consider indispensable. From this, we will see the mutation of the socialization process, the
transformation of the system of social organization by classes and, as an addition, we will emphasize
the situation suffered by the minority that does not want to integrate into the established system.

The points system, as we can see, is one of the main elements that compose this peculiar society. It
generates an unhealthy ambition for the inhabitants to increase their score, turning everyone into
sociopaths, and fosters the homogeneity of society, progressively eliminating any marked difference
between one and the other that is not the number of stars. It could be said that we are talking about
a systematic mental manipulation, a dictatorship of thought, in which whoever wants to be successful
must abide by rigorous rules of conduct and interaction with others, because otherwise he would be
excluded and his reinsertion, if possible, would be slow and difficult.

Thus, the simple acts of publishing photos or talking to people are activities of pure interest, and
everyone who is part of the interaction shows an extremely false side of himself consciously, in order
to be rewarded with a positive qualification, which gives him the possibility to raise his score and thus
raise his social status to achieve more and better opportunities in all aspects.

These scores are of vital importance in this chilling society, since the privileges an individual possesses
are not due to his real merit or his money, but to the number of stars he possesses. This allows him to
access things like discounts, exclusive places, etc. Therefore, having many high grades gives a social
position to each person, which generates the most vile classism, and even cynical power relations are
established from it.

It is curious, moreover, to see that those who do not want to join the system are repudiated by a
useful majority to the established order, of homogeneous minds. Those who go against the system
can even be imprisoned just for their way of thinking, something that limits freedom of expression
even more than the points system itself does, and I think it's a clear wink at the situation in some
countries, where any opinion that doesn't like the hegemonic media or public opinion is labeled "hate
speech" and then censored.

In conclusion, it could be said that this chapter of Black Mirror is a convincing example of what would
be a "Utopia of equality", since it could easily be said that everyone has the same opportunities to be
successful (being that to reach that goal, they would only need a high approval), but this falls on a
system that is, paradoxically, extremely unequal, where any unconventional method is repudiated
and classism is more latent than ever, but presenting itself in a novel way. In this way, the interaction
between beings is affected to the point of being carried out between the parts with the only purpose
of raising some positions in a social ranking, by means of actions that only contribute to the
perpetuity of a system that is cynical and atrocious, but, above all, discreet. While everyone seems to
be open and lively, deep down, these individuals are clearly circumspect, cold and calculating, equal
to the system they actively maintain.
