Pastoral Kit Final Report

Alterations

 Guardrail on the sides was removed

 Support Column storage was moved into the board lengthwise instead of under the phone stand
in a divot
 Support Column was turned into a tube
 Support Column usage hole was added
 Axle containers were added onto the design
 Design was added to the front
Refinements

While making my phone stand, I decided to make a couple changes from the design. The first
change was I deemed the side guardrails unnecessary to keep the phone on the stand, so I removed
them. The second change I made was adding axle stoppers onto the side of the phone stand so the axle
could not slide out. The third change I made involved the support column being moved under the top of
the phone stand to within the phone stand, changing the column into a tube, and maxing a usage hole
for the tube so the stand would not slide out. I also added a lasered on H onto the front side of the
phone stand.

Evaluation per Proposal

Durability Rating: 5 Stars

It would take at least 10 minutes of constant use with a sledgehammer to destroy it. The
product is only vulnerable to saws, fire, and potentially termites. The product is extremely
durable as its design makes it a 2x4. Will last multiple lifetimes with regular use.

Analysis: Users did not believe the phone stand to be that practical as it is somewhat big
for its purpose. Users also believed it could do a good job as functioning as a phone stand. In the
aesthetics department some users did not like the blocky look of the phone stand, and some
did. Additional curves could be cut to make the kit smoother.

Final Report

Through the process of making my pastoral kit I had to make numerous design changes to for
the phone stand to be usable, but in the end came up with a finished project that basically everyone can
use and can be mailed out.

While I was coming up for ideas for my pastoral kit, I came across the idea of a phone stand.
Virtually everyone one in the U.S. has a phone now so everyone can use it. I decided to make my phone
stand a flip up one so it could compress itself for easy storage.

My phone stand complies with the criteria set upon us. Criterion 1 is complied with by having a
lasered on H. Criterion 2 is complied with by being smaller than the package size of 11.5x7.5. Criterion 3
is complied with by the parts not having to be on exactly the right way to work. It has room for error in
assembly. Sanding is already taken care of. Criterion 4 is complied with by using the classroom materials
made available to us.

The peer evaluations told me that the look of the phone stand could use some refining as they
did not feel the blocky look truly complimented the look for a phone stand. I was also told I should have
made it smaller so it would have been easier to store when not in use. Users also would have preferred
the stand to have been on a hinge and not like a stylus.

I would have done this project with some changes if I did it again. I would have made the design
with more curved edges instead of 90-degree angles so the phone stand had a more modern look. I also
would have made the bottom 2x4 a lot thinner so it could be stored a lot easier. A hinge for the support
column instead of a stylus also would have been preferred, as you can’t lose a hinge like you can lose a
stylus.

When the kit arrives at consumers doorsteps, I hope they will be able to utilize my phone stand.
Perhaps they place it by their bedside so their phone can be propped up at night. Maybe they bring it to
the library, so they don’t have to look down when their watching their math video.

Overall, I am happy with the way my pastoral kit turned out. It followed the main parts of my
original design plan, fulfilled the criterion of the project, has my logo on it, and turned out to be a usable
phone stand.
