IN THE CHARITY NEWS:

IRAN SAYS IT “UNINTENTIONALLY” SHOT DOWN UKRAINIAN
AIRPLANE.

NEWS:

Iran acknowledged that it "unintentionally" shot down a

Ukrainian International Airlines passenger jet early Wednesday,
killing all 176 people aboard, according to a military statement
on state TV cited by The Associated Press.

The statement, which was released Saturday morning local time,

said the plane was mistaken for a "hostile target" after it turned
toward a "sensitive military center" of the Revolutionary Guard,
the AP reported. It also blamed the "highest level of readiness"
resulting from tensions with the United States.

The admission comes after Iranian officials vehemently denied

claims that they mistakenly shot down the jet and accused the
United States of "spreading lies" about intelligence suggesting
they did. Of the 176 people killed in the crash, most were Iranian
and Canadian nationals.

Video Shows Ukrainian Plane Being Hit Over Iran

Video verified by The New York Times appears to show an Iranian missile hitting a
plane near Tehran’s airport, the area where a Ukrainian jet crashed on Wednesday,
killing all 176 people on board.

As investigators work to determine an official cause of the accident, the video offered
new clues about the crash, which came hours after a violent confrontation
between Iran and the United States. American and allied officials on Thursday said they
believed an Iranian missile had accidentally brought the plane down.

A small explosion occurred when what appears to be a missile hit the plane above
Parand, a city near the airport, but the plane did not explode, the video showed. The jet
continued flying for several minutes and turned back toward the airport, The Times has
determined. The plane, which by then had stopped transmitting its signal, flew toward
the airport ablaze before it exploded and crashed quickly, other videos verified by The
Times showed.

Iran Admits It Accidentally Shot Down Ukrainian Plane.

Irania Brown and Amankwaa (2007)

In officials have admitted to accidentally shooting down a Ukraine

International Airlines passenger jet on Wednesday, killing all 176 on
board. In a statement released Saturday, the government blamed
“human error” for its military firing the missiles that destroyed the
Boeing 737-800, the Associated Press reported.

The Iranian government had previously maintained that engine failure

caused the crash, which occurred shortly after the airliner took off
from Imam Khomeini International Airport outside Tehran, bound for
Kyiv. Many of the passengers were due to make a connecting flight to
Toronto—82 Iranians, 57 Canadians and 11 Ukrainians were among the
dead.

The crash happened amid heightened tension in the region, just hours
after Iran launched ballistic missiles at two military bases in Iraq that
house American forces in response to an American drone strike that
killed Iran’s top military general, Qasem Soleimani.

A statement from the military on Iranian state media said that the
plane was mistaken for a “hostile target,” adding that forces were at
the “highest level of readiness” at the time, according to the AP.
