Last November 23, 2019, we went to Barangay GPS as a part of our activity in

NSTP. Participating in a community service will help me to widen my perspective in life

because I will be exposed to the real world. It is something I really wanted to do even

once in my life because I wanted to try new experiences. Last Saturday, we started to

clean up to prepare the area for our plan to put a vegetable garden to their community.

It is kind a weird for others but I really had fun pulling out the weeds because it excites

me to see the area clean. By doing this kind of simple acts, I know it can be a big help

to others especially to the people living in that community.

During November 23, 2019, our group CWTS 6 went to Brgy. General Paulino

Santos, Koronadal City to start implement our project which is the “ Adopt-a-purok for a

vegetable garden”. My group mates and I removed the unwanted weed in the garden

and picked up the plastics and other garbage that may harm the soil for our vegetable

garden. With the help of rakes, shovel, sacks, twigs and other gardening equipment it

made our work a lot easier. We did not just focus on cleaning and cultivating our

vegetable garden but we also cleaned the barangay’s playground which is near the

garden to bring back its beauty for the children to enjoy. At the end of the session, our

group decided to brainstorm on what different kinds of plant we are going to consider for

our vegetable garden and renovating some small parts of the play ground agreed by the

group. Being able to give my own service for free and for the reason that I am not the

only one who is going to get benefits from this but also the community and mother

nature really made me smile thinking that as a first year student I am capable of doing

this small help which hopefully may lead to bigger effects in the community in the future.
