COFFEE WITH ALUMNI

Alumni Relations Committee kick started its saga of events with its first event of
the session, “COFFEE WITH ALUMNI” on 30th August 2019. As the name suggests,
the theme of the event is inspired by “KOFFEE WITH KARAN” and involves a fun
conversation over coffee regarding their current professional life and their
student life at Jaipuria Institute of Management. The Alumnis invited for this
event were Mr. Gaurav Tripathi, a 2007-09 batch Alumni, currently Senior
Manager HR at LOTS Wholesale Ltd. & Mr. Sahil Kaul, a 2008-10 batch Alumni,
currently working as Client Partner on Twitter. The Alumnis expressed their
nostalgia on returning to the institute after a long time. They shared a glimpse of
their student life. They pointed out that the uniform in their time use to be blue
and white and Gaurav’s Sir batch was the one who was responsible for making
the campus uniform free by discussing the matter with the faculty. Also, the SEC
Council did not exist during their time at college. As stated by them, the life at
college differs greatly from the brutal corporate world as one is expected to meet
timelines than to follow time table. One is regularly tested and punished if one
fails to perform as expected, whereas college environment offers a bit of
protection to the defaulters. Mr. Sahil Kaul is one of the 35 people who work at
Twitter India. He expressed that the life of social media is full of challenges and is
not as lucrative and glamorous as it seems from the outside. One must work for
about 14 hours to keep up with the deadlines. He pointed out that his college
days were substantial in injecting the knowledge that helped in building his career
and excel to his current position. Mr. Gaurav stated that he was initially
interested in sales but developed interest in HR because of Prof. Kapil Batla, who
helped him understand the course of Human Resources from ground zero. He
negated the popular myth that HR is a profile meant for women by stating that
the top 10 HRs in the world majorly comprise of men and any profile can’t be
restricted to a specific gender. A profile is dependent on the talent which can be
found in both genders. Also, he was asked by the audience to comment on the
statement that HR is an easy job compared to other profiles. He stated that the
reach and the roles of HR vary in every organization. He stated that he often visits
the market to assess behavior and work of the employees and is responsible for
other tasks like calculation of sales quota along with marketing apart from the
core HR responsibilities. The event ended on a successful note with the Alumnis
signing their coffee cups that will be kept as memoirs of their visit to the college.
