What is the text about?

The text is about the grammatical errors of students in using the English language, especially in writing
essays.

What is the writer’s goal in writing the text?

The writer’s goal in writing the text is to inform and to express. The text has factual and cited
information that states grammatical errors that students often make in using the English language, and at the
same time expresses the different “standards” of English of other people.

Who is/are the target reader/s of the text?

The target readers of the text are the English teachers who are Filipinos, college students and other
Filipinos who use the English language, since the teachers teach English and grammar and the students who
learned the basics in primary level and still use it in college and in their everyday lives, along with other Filipinos
who use English as their second language.

What is the point of view used in the text?

Third person POV.

How did the writer organize the text?

The style used in the text is expository because there were facts and information stated about thinking
of possible strategies to improve the students’ skills in both oral and written English, and mainly focusing on
their grammar.

Did the writer write in a formal or informal manner? - Clear and concise

The text is written in a formal manner since it doesn’t have contractions or phrasal words. It is
understandable and most of the words used are familiar.

Text B

1. The text is about the author’s experiences with her mother about the difference of using the standard
English and broken English in communicating with other people.

2. To inform and to persuade. The author is stating her experiences and persuading other people that
limitations reflect the quality of a person’s thoughts and if it is expressed imperfectly, then one’s thoughts are
imperfect.

3. The target reader of the text is the general public since we all speak different languages and some might be
or might not be fluent in other languages.

5. The style used in the text is narrative. The author tried to indicate the difference between her and her
mother’s level of fluency in using the English language.

6. The text is written in an informal manner. There are some words that are contracted and is casual.

Text C

1. The text is about Professor Lanuza for being chosen as a recipient of the ASEAN Educational Program Award
and was invited to the 5th Annual ASEAN English Teachers’ Conference.

2. To inform. The letter was intended to inform Prof. Lanuza that he will receive an award.

3. The intended audience is the one who receives the letter, which is Professor Lanuza.

4. Second person, POV

5. The style utilized in the text is expository because the letter explained the events of the program and the
conference to the professor.

6. The text is written in a formal manner. It is professional and courteous.

Text D

1. The text is about the extension of the submission of compromise agreement of the said parties.

2. To inform. The letter informs the said parties about the submission of the Compromise Agreement within 10
days.

3. The intended audience are the parties and the defendants who are mentioned in the letter.

4. Third person, POV.

5. The style utilized in the text is expository because it explains the details and other information about the
agreement of the said parties.

6. The text is written in a formal manner. It is clear and concise.
