2.Audio in more technical term, referring to sound coming from a recording, transmission or electronic
device most commonly refers to sound, as it is transmitted in signal form.

D. EXERCISES
Discuss the following terms.
1. Online participation
Findings indicated that online learner participation and patterns of participation are
influenced by the following factors: technology and interface characteristics,
content area experience, student roles and instructional tasks, and information
overload. Effective online learning requires interdependence for a shared
understanding of learning goals in a learning community. Monitoring student
participation and patterns of participation closely can help instructors identify
student needs and scaffold learning accordingly.
2. Video on demand
is a system that allows users to select and watch video content of their choice on

Lesson 14.Multimedia and ICT
Performance Standard Week 11
The learners at the end of the week independently assess one’s experience along
a range of online rich content on the basis of the usability of the interface.

Learning Competencies

The learners will explore the principles of interactivity and rich content in the context of Web 2.0 and
the participation of the user in the online experience
CS_ICT11/12-ICTPT-Ik-14

Objectives
At the end of the lesson, learners should be able to:
1. Identify the types of rich media content;
2. Know the categories of multimedia;
3. Apply the types of multimedia

A. GAME
Arrange the letters inside the box to form a word.
M L T U E N T R T
I M DI A I ME N
E A N E T

1.MULTIMEDIA 2. ENTERTAINMENT

C R S W N V I G

A R E O A T OI

U E N A

3. COURSEWARE 4.NAVIGATION

B. ACTIVITY
Create a report on how to use the different types of multimedia. Place it in a long size paper.
Educational classrooms use multimedia formats from various media. Text and graphics include
slideshows, presentations, diagrams and infographics. Audio includes podcasts and recordings.
Screen captures, lecture captures and animation are examples of video components of multimedia.
Other multimedia components include blogs, vlogs, webinars and other interactive content.

There are many ways to use different types of multimedia, either individually or layered for a
deeper understanding of a school subject. Audiobooks are ideal for second-language learners. Song
files and music videos can be used to compare social norms in different eras. A teacher who is
adept at different types of multimedia can offer their students a better understanding of the subject.

The most commercially successful multimedia works are computer games whose short but rich
history is interwoven with the development of multimedia technologies. Games like Myst (Cyan)
which introduced consumers of all ages to the effective use of images, along animations, and
environmental sound to create a fictional world characterized by navigation and puzzle-solving
like which is real. More recently, the advancements in hardware and software technologies for
graphics, with video, animation, audio and sophisticated artificial intelligence and physics models
are making game worlds look and act more convincing with real world. Games are normally
distributed on DVD’s or CD-ROM, but the Web is frequently used for distributing software
updates and game demos through internets.

Artists have been using multimedia to create interactive installations which are controlled by
computers and use multiple media. The example would be David Rokeby’s Very Nervous System
, an interactive sound installation where the user or a performer generates sound and music through
body movement which is a great example. These playful works are exhibited in galleries and
museums as works of art that brings multimedia into the traditions of art exhibition. Other digital
artists have created the Web works that are submitted to online exhibitions and mounted by the
San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in their E•SPACE, which collects and commissions Web
art object

D. EXERCISES
Discuss the following situation on how ICT get involved.
1. Million People March
ICT has almost become the platform of change because the protest is mostly organized
through social media channels. Through this millenial tool, Filipinos, once again showed
their love for their country and for the people who works hard for their living. Social Media
has become part of the Philippines great history.

2. EDSA Dos
Texting” allowed information on former President Estrada’s corruption to be
shared widely. It helped facilitate the protests at the EDSA shrine at a speed that was
startling – it took only 88 hours after the collapse of impeachment to remove Estrada. The
use of mobile phones was why the mobilization (or perhaps “mobile-ization”) was so large
and so rapid and thus so decisive. Estrada himself blamed his ouster on the “text messaging
generation.Mobile phone technology was not just critical in the days preceding People
Power II; it had been important over a number of months. In Spring last year, Estrada
ordered key government agencies to do something about alleged text-messages abusing
him. The same week, texters started passing around messages using an exclamation mark
as a symbol to call for an end to the Estrada government’s corruption, cronyism and
incompetence.
ICT played a huge role during the EDSA Dos. Without it, we wouldn’t have removed
someone in a high position who uses his power for corrupted ways.

3. Yolanda
The vast use of ICT had a great impact in terms of informing others on what is
happening during this calamity. The typhoon is talked about on social networking sites and
the storm became a trend world wide, dubbing that Typhoon Yolanda is one of the strongest
typhoons in world history.Aside from the social media, Google offered a help to the
Filipino people by allowing them to use their web application called Google Person Finder

4. EDSA
Through the help of Radio during EDSA(People Power Revolution ) Aquino are
comfortable to communicate and inform Filipinos to make a protest against Marcos.
Without Radio Veritas it would have been difficult for them to mobilize millions of people
in a matter of hours.
