(The Cat ll DH shouH be not lessthan 125% of the MinimumUseHeightcertificated

c. Runway VisualRange(RVR)- CAT ll/lll

The maximumvisibilityin the directionof takeoff or landinglrom a specificpoint on

to the averageeye levelof the pilot
at touch down.

In practice, the minimumR\4l valuefor eachlandingcategoryis determinedin srch

- in normal operation, the aircraftdoes not touch the groundduring the procedure

- with critical engine failureduring go-around,it can be demonsiratedthat taking

The height of the wheelsabove the ground read on a radio ahimeter,at which a

Research usingsimulators and flightirials has shownthat in general:

- visual contact needs to be eslablishedabout 3 sec. above DH to enable

assessment of the exlernalreferences and evaluationol the flightpath in relation
to thosereferences ; the durationof this decisionprocessreducesto about1 sec.
when a fail-operational automaticlandingsystemis used.

- to control the flight path in the verticalplane, includingthe flare, using purely

externalcues, a point on the groundwhich has a low or zero rate of apparent
movementrelativeto the aircrafl(i.e.the aimingpoint) shouH be visible.
