1 INTRODUCTION

To use C264 release B7.21, and above, for PACiS 4.8.1 it’s
mandatory to update the C264 computer "bootrom”. A new flash
memory partition is done to create a specific zones for: waveforms
and cyber security data.
This guide details the installation procedure.

Note: There is no backward compatibility, so it’s mandatory to re-

install bootrom version for a C264 cpu3 (cpu270) when using oldest
C264 BY.xx version of computer software.
This procedure is also useable to re-install the oldest version.
(Bootrom and Bootprom are two names for the same thing)

Compatibility matrix

C264 release label : Bootrom version label:

B3.xx ( any xx ) B0.12 and below
B4.xx ( any xx ) B0.12 and below
B4R.xx ( any xx ) B0.12 and below
B5.xx : lower than or equal to 13 B0.12 and below

B5.xx : upper than or equal to 14 B0.14 or B0.15 and above

B6.xx : ( any xx ) B0.14 / B0.15 / B0.17
B7.xx : : lower than or equal to 14 B0.14 / B0.15 / B0.17
B7.xx : : upper than or equal to 15 B1.00 and above
B7.xx : : upper than or equal to 21 B1.02 and above

Note for versions B3.xx,B4.xx,B4R.xx,B5.xx:

It’s preferred to update the first delivered cpu3 boards using B0.7
bootrom version to B0.12 to avoid the loss of “boot parameters” after
a keyboarding error.

Note on B0.14/B0.15 bootrom version differences:

The version B0.14 modifies the new flash memory partition, version
B0.17 adds the possibility to manage serial number bigger than
32665. This version, B0.17, will be used by production when they will
pass this limit.

As the serial number of a CPU board is unique and linked to the

board (for its all life!) an update from B0.14 to B0.17 it’s not
necessary.

2 TO FIND THE BOOTROM VERSION OF THE C264 CPU3

BOARD
2.1 Using the serial interface in front panel

For bootrom versions lower than B015

The bootrom version is not indicated on the first text sent to the terminal on versions until
B0.14.

2.2 Using the CAT.

2.2.1 Stop calculator in "bootprom" mode

- Connect to the computer.

- Click on “Manage boot and Network parameters”
- Select “Bootprom boot (Expert – stop after boot)”
- Click on “Apply parameters”
- Click on “Yes, reboot now” and wait for computer reboot ends.

- After computer reboot, connect to the computer.

- Click on “Display status and monitoring”
- Select “General” tab

NOTES: once the “Bootprom boot” mode has been selected every time the computer is
rebooted or powered-up it will be stopped in this mode.
The mode must be manually set to “Flash boot” to get back a normal mode.

2.3 Label on the CPU

Each CPU board as a label on its solder side, indicating the version of the bootrom
installed on it by the production team:

NOTES: once the bootrom version has been updated to a new version it’s mandatory to
update also manually the label (think to next user …).

3 PROCEDURE
This procedure applies for CPU boards coming directly from production or for CPU
boards already used on a project (Repair service or version update).

In this document CPU boards coming directly from production are called production
boards and boards already used on a project are called project boards.

Production boards: start from §3.1

Project boards: start from §3.2

Some phases of the procedure may contain messages or actions that depend on
initial state: production or project.

3.1 For CPU boards coming directly from production

The board stop it-self after the first count-down, it is in bootrom mode.
For bootrom version lower than B0.15 bootrom update it is not possible in this mode. It
is mandatory to boot the board in network boot mode.
The C264 in this mode download its application software using File Transfer Protocol
(FTP), so the FTP server must run on the PC server.

3.1.1 Run CAT

Use the version of CAT which includes the right version of the bootrom.
Use at least a B7.21 version of C264 (CAT A1.14).

3.1.2 Configure Network boot

- Connect to the computer.

- Click on “Manage boot and Network parameters”
- Select “Network boot (Expert – not recommended)”
- Fill with the right values: IP and subnet mask N°1 and 2
- Fill with the right value: FTP server host IP (the address of your PC)
- Click on “Apply parameters”
- Click on “Yes, reboot now” and wait for computer reboot ends.

3.2 For CPU boards already used with a bootprom version upper than
B1.02:
Project Board:
Run CAT

Use the version of CAT that includes the right version of the bootrom.
Use at least a B7.21 version of C264 (CAT A1.14).

3.3 Stop C264 application

Project Board:
Set the computer mode to “Stopped”:

- If the CPU’s current version is already compatible with Perma (PACiS versions
V4.8 or upper), connect to the computer as “System Administrator”.
- Else (PACiS versions V4.7 or lower), just connect to the computer (no user is
asked)
- Click on “Stop”
- Click on “Yes, stop now”
